Rose City Motorcycle Club Delivers
Food to Vernonia Cares

North 2 nd Street Neighbors in St. Helens joined
in a “pilot program” entitled “Map Your Neighborhood
– MYN” at the home of Diane Dillard. The educational
program is sponsored by Oregon Citizen Corps with the
mission of Building and Strengthening Disaster Readiness
Among Neighbors.

Kathleen Hendrickson and Diane Dillard
volunteered to become the neighborhood coordinators
assisted by Fire Chief Jay Tappan, who invited local
residents to meet for a program introduction. Other
presenters included Anne Parrott, Public Health
Emergency Preparedness coordinator and CERT team
members under the leadership of Holly Haebe and Nancy
Harwood.

Attendees learned of the importance of preparing
an emergency kit that includes water, prescription

powered or hand crank radio, NOAA Weather Radio,
flashlight and extra batteries, first aid kit, whistle, dust
mask, sanitary supplies, wrench to turn off utilities and can opener for food. Other
reminders include pet food, children’s toys, cash, matches, fire extinguisher, gloves,
hard hat and generator.

Perhaps one of the most informative items was that residents need to register
their cell phones with 911 so they can be included in the Columbia Alert Network
(CAN) emergency call system. You can send this information to CAN Alternate

The path forward for the MYN program will be the development of a list of
no-cost or low cost health
neighborhood skills and special supplies as well as a list of those who may have special
coverage to all uninsured
needs (elderly, disabled, small children). Kathleen said, “It was a great event and
