10 community june28 2011 Spiralz Salon—New Location, Same Great Service Spiralz Salon owner, Karin Dav- enport, has moved her business from her downtown location to her home. The location of Spiralz Salon is on the very south side of Vernonia just off Highway 47. In fact she isn’t actu- ally in the City limits and had to get all her building permits through Columbia County. Her house and shop sit behind another home just at the rise heading out of town—there is a small yellow flag with a butterfly that indicates the grav- el driveway, just past River Street, that leads back to the new location. The new Spiralz Salon has a welcoming feel, with Karin’s usual touches of class and style. Spiralz Sa- lon will continue to offer the same hair services as before: cuts, coloring, and perms. Davenport is available by ap- pointment only and has a new phone number. Davenport says she moved for two main reasons. After being flooded in 2007 and spending a lot of time and effort remodeling, she just didn’t want to take the chance of being flooded again. And she wanted to cut down on over- head. The Davenports spent the last year remodeling the attached garage into a beautiful salon, complete with two chairs, hair wash- ing sink and more. They installed a ductless heat pump with an allergen filter, and a handicapped accessible restroom. Her husband did all of the work himself and their two sons Tyler and Trevor helped when they could. They did have a little extra help from a family friend on the plumbing and NW Total Home did the cabinetry. Now that she has been open for a few weeks, Davenport is recognizing an extra perk to her new location--the new salon is quieter and more comfort- able for her clients. At her downtown location, she found she was frequently interrupted while she worked; at the new location people seldom drop by unan- nounced. “Being here is going to change the atmosphere,” she says. “I just want it to feel calm, relaxed, serene and com- fortable for people.” Davenport says she also appre- to enjoy while getting their hair cut. “It’s just so people can feel relaxed while they are here,” ex- plains Davenport. Davenport is planning an Open House to wel- come everyone to her new location. It is sched- uled for Sunday July 10 from 1-5 PM. Stop by for hors d’oeuvres and refreshments and a tour of the new shop. To schedule an appoint- ment call Karin Daven- port at Spiralz Salon at 503-429-7408. ciates that she can provide easy access parking for her clients. “After being downtown where I was and not having any parking, it’s pretty great to have this wide open space for parking,” she says. She also mentioned that her old location is now available for rent. Davenport just re- ceived her first shipment of Hair Feath- ers and Tinsel which are the newest hair extension craze. The feathers are reus- able and are placed in the hair with a mi- cro bead and can last up to 8 weeks. The hair Tinsel lasts a few weeks. Daven- port is stocking a few self tanning prod- ucts this summer as well. One feature to her new salon is her small refrigerator which she hopes clients take advantage of in what she’s calling “Bring a warm one, have a cold one” Clients can bring a warm beverage of their choice, put it in her refrigerator, and take a cold one Vernonia Florist FLOWERS AND PLANTS FOR ALL OCCASIONS • Gifts • Balloons • Arts & Crafts • Sewing Supplies • Yarn CRAFT CIRCLE Thrs 10-2, Sat 11-5 Knit, crochet, quilt or whatever else you want to do Proud Sponsor of Mackenzie Carr 2011 Miss Rodeo Oregon 736 Bridge St, Vernonia (503) 429-2000 www.VernoniaFlorist.com TOWN HALL MEETINGS Sunday, July 10, 2011 Review of the 2011 Session with State Senator Betsy Johnson and State Representative Brad Witt 8:30am – 10am Clatskanie Town Hall Clatskanie River Inn 600 E Columbia River Hwy Clatskanie, OR 97016 11am – 12:30pm Columbia City Town Hall Columbia City Community Hall 1850 Second Street Columbia City, OR 97018 Local produce & products, Hand-crafted goods, & much more! 4th an New nu time a !
