RUSSELL EUGENE TAYLOR Russell Eugene Taylor was born December 6, 1920 in Lexington Nebraska, the son of the late George H. Taylor and Grace D. Taylor. He spent his early years in Sutherland, NE. and Hershey, NE. He moved to North Platte, NE during his elementary years, and received most of his education there, graduating from North Platte High in 1939. Russell was united in marriage to Nevah B. (Stevie) Taylor on September 28, 1941 in North Platte, NE. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in September of 2003, shortly before Stevie’s death. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Russell tried to enlist in all the branches of the armed services, but due to one weak eye, was not allowed to enlist. So he was drafted into the Army Air Corps instead on October 7, 1942, when the manpower need was at its height. Following his time in the service, in 1945 he and Stevie moved to Cardiff- By-The-Sea, California and lived there until 1974, where he worked for the civil service at Camp Pendleton as a pipefitter. They then moved with their daughter, Tammy, to Forks, Washington to be nearer to family. They lived in the Forks community until 1987 when they moved to Cozad, Nebraska, where they resided until 1995 when they returned to North Platte, Nebraska. In April of 2003, they moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community to again be near their son Gary and daughter Tammy’s families. While residing in the Forks community, he was an active member of the Forks Bible Church and to stay busy, he worked for about 10 years for the Forks Hospital in the maintenance area. After moving to Cozad and later North Platte, Nebraska, he was an active member of the Berean Church, serving as head usher, and the Senior Citizens Center in both places. While living in the Vernonia area, he was once again active in the Nehalem Valley Bible Church and Senior Citizen’s Center. He moved to the assisted living facility of Marquis Vintage Suites in Forest Grove, Oregon, in 2008, where he continued an active lifestyle. Russell had 3 special interests in his life, the first being his family. He took delight in his first granddaughter, Alisha, and then later in Brienne, Anna, Julie, Nicholas, and Alyssa. And then along came the great-grandchildren, Joshua, Izaak, and his newest, Adaleine (Addie). He had a special “twinkle” in his eyes for them as they did for him. His second great passion was ballroom dancing. He taught almost everyone with whom he came in contact to dance if they showed the slightest interest, including his doctors, nurses, assisted living director, etc. His 3rd major interest was playing cribbage. He could play for hours with just the slightest encouragement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Steve and Erroll Taylor, and sister Bea Kennedy. Another brother died at birth. Russell passed away May 20, 2011 at the Marquis Vintage Suites. He is survived by his son, Pastor Gary G. and wife, Diana of Vernonia, Oregon; son Tim R. and wife Lee Taylor, of Heber City, Utah; and his daughter, Tammy M. Taylor, and fiancé Jeffrey A. Cary of Everett, Washington. Also surviving are his 6 grandchildren, Alisha Beth and husband Marvin Mulder, of North Carolina; Brienne Joy and spouse Charles Townsend, of Seattle Washington; Anna L. Olney and companion, Joshua Sommer of Bremerton, Washington; Juliene Lorel and spouse Christopher Wall; Nicholas and Alyssa Taylor of Heber City, Utah; his 3 great-grandchildren, Joshua A. and Izaak T. Mulder, of North Carolina, and Adaleine Grace Townsend of Seattle; and several other relatives. The family would like to extend special thanks for the loving care of Lisa Plunkett in his final hours; the special care extended to him by the staff at Marquis Care Vintage Suites in Forest Grove, Oregon; and the Hospice staff of Washington County. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given as donations to the Nehalem Valley Bible Church in Vernonia, Oregon, where he was a member.
