She married Jackie E. “Jack” Nance and soon after began moving to various cities around the United States for Jack’s employer, Weyerhaeuser. A few that were especially endearing to her were Charlotte, NC, Grand Island, NE, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, and Newark, CA. Upon her husband’s death in 1971, Tempie and her two children, Elizabeth (Kelly) and Scott, moved home to Vernonia where they could be close to her family. She was well known and loved by many within her local community. She retired from over 20 years employment with US Bank of Oregon. She loved watching wildlife – especially birds, and the deer that would often roam into her yard. She also enjoyed art, gardening, reading, music from her era, and spending time – especially cooking -- with her family. Tempie is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Kelly) and son-in-law, Don King, of Eugene; her son, Scott Nance and daughter-in-law, Corinne, of Portland; her sister, Betty Meier of Tacoma; her brother, John David DeHart of Portland; her granddaughter, Blakeley Vaughn of New York; her grandsons, Austin Nance and Skylar Nance, both of Portland; and her great-granddaughter, LillyAnn Elizabeth Nance of Portland; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers – Thurman, Leon, Mitchell, Lester and Alvin DeHart; and three sisters – Otha Ekegren, Dorothy O’Neal and Alice DeHart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Vernonia Cares Food Bank, PO Box 126, Vernonia, OR 97064. Family and friends were invited to a reception immediately following the interment service at the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 1350 Knott St, Vernonia, OR.
