Violet married Anthony Polos VIOLET MAE “COOKIE” POLOS Violet Mae “Cookie” Polos, 93, a resident of the Vernonia commu- nity, died Thursday morning, March 18, 2010 at Providence St. Vincent Hospi- tal. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Nehalem Valley Bible Church, 500 North Street, Vernonia, Oregon, with Pastor Gary Taylor offici- ating. Immediately following the ser- vice there was a reception to be held in the Fellowship Room of church. Private Cremation Rites have been held. Violet was born, December 12, 1916 in Hopedale, Ohio. She was the only daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (Marple) Grindstaff. She was raised and received her education in Cambridge, Ohio having attended all twelve years on July 3, 1936 in Waco, Texas. Fol- lowing their marriage they lived in Waco, then Fort Worth, Texas for a short time before moving to Menlo Park, Cal- ifornia where Violet was an aircraft ob- server for the Fourth Fighter Command during World War II. The family moved to Portland in 1950 settled in the Aloha community before moving to Vernonia in 1974 where they finally settled. Violet enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, and raising Arabian horses. She was quite the artist too, loving to use watercolors as a medium. Cookie loved to travel, especially by train. Among her many special interests she was a mem- ber of the DAR, Daughters of the Amer- ican Revolution. She was very easy to make new friends. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Polos. Violet is survived by her daugh- ter Barbara “Missy” Werner of Verno- nia, Oregon; her sons, John Anthony Polos of Battleground, Washington and David Andrew Polos of Gladstone, Or- egon. Also surviving are two grand- children, Andy Polos of Battleground, Washington and Amy McCoy of Santa Rosa, California. The family suggests that re- membrances be made to the Vernonia Senior Center, 446 Bridge Street, Ver- nonia, Oregon 97064 or to the Nehalem Valley Bible Church, 500 North Street, Vernonia, Oregon, 97064, in her memo- ry. This Project will use a combination of federal grant funding for Hazard Mitigation Assistance from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (“HMGP”) awarded to the Oregon Emergency Management (“OEM”) by the Federal Emergency Management Program (“FEMA”) and funding from the Community Development Block Grant Program (“CDBG”) made available by the Oregon Business Development Department (“OBDD”).
