She plans to sit for the National Board Certification Exam in early September and then pursue a career in Geriatric Rehabilitation. Rose is a 2002 graduate of Vernonia High School and has remained in Vernonia while she pursued her graduate degree. attended Oregon State University and studied Civil Engi- neering and belonged to Chi Phi Fraternity. He met Margaret A. Mott in Astoria and the couple married on August 14, 1965. They had two daughters Mary and Jill. Bob began his career in the Kitch- en Cabinet Industry in 1964. He worked for Noble Craft, which later became Dia- mond Industries in Hillsboro, Oregon be- fore moving his family to Oahu, Hawaii in 1973. Bob started his own business, Total Building Products in Tigard, Oregon in 1979. It soon grew to include ware- houses in Kent, Washington and Waipahu, Hawaii. From 1980 to 2004, Bob was on the Executive Committee for the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In 2004, Bob sold his company and he and Marga- ret retired to West Linn, Oregon and en- joyed wintering in Palm Desert, California. Bob and Margaret loved to go on motorcycle trips around the United States, and they were fortunate enough to have ridden in every state in the U.S. with Alaska as their only exception. Bob is survived by his wife, Mar- garet Cone; daughters, Mary Cone of West Linn and Jill Cone of Clackamas; mother Peggy Cone of Vernonia; sister Patty Cone of Vernonia; and his faithful dog Joey. A BBQ celebration of Bob’s life was held at The McLean House on Saturday July 11 th in West Linn. Lentz, 89, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Tuesday morn- ing, July 21, 2009 at the Marquis Vintage Suites in Forest Grove, Oregon. FRANCES LOUISE LENTZ was born August 12, 1919 in San Francisco, Califor- nia, the daughter of the late Frank C. Castro and Marguerite Emily (Montalon) Castro. She was raised and received her education in San Rafael and Sonora, California, having been a gradu- ate of the Sonora High School Class of 1936. Frances later graduated from beauty school as a stylist in San Francisco, California. She was united in marriage to John F. Lentz on April 27, 1944 in Reno, Nevada. Fol- lowing their marriage they moved to Alaska, where they built several homes in the wilder- ness and resided in the communities of Homer, Fairbanks and Anchorage. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, John, on September 13, 1995 in Forest Grove, Oregon, after celebrating over 51years of marriage together. She had worked as a Beautician for a Beauty Shop and as a Candy Striper at a Bay area Medical Center and in the Shipyards dur- ing World War II in San Francisco, California. Frances was a member of the Pio- neers of Alaska, the Vernonia Study Group, the American Cancer Society, the Vernonia Chris- tian Church and the Columbia County Histori- cal Society. Recitation of the Rosary was held on Thursday, July 23 rd at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ve r n o n i a followed by a Mass of Christian Burial . The Mass was followed by a reception at the church with Committal Prayers and Interment at 3:00 P.M. At St. Francis Cemetery in Roy, Oregon. MARY CATHERINE DERRICK, was born on September 4, 1945 in Forest Grove, Oregon, the daughter of Edward Henry and Madeline Agnes (Krunican) VanderZanden. Mary attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School and graduated from Banks High School in 1963. She worked for Rogers Organ Company in Hillsboro for a short time before she was married to Patrick E. Derrick on March 29, 1969 in Roy, Oregon. They celebrated forty years of marriage together on their wedding anniversary this last March of 2009. After their marriage they made their home in Hillsboro, Oregon for many years until moving to Vernonia, Oregon in April of 2001. She continued working at Rogers Organ in Hillsboro for a few more years before going to work for Electronic Diversified Inc. where she worked for four years. She then went to work for Gray & Company where she worked for fifteen years before she stayed home to be a homemaker. She was a thirty- five year member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro and most recently a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vernonia for the last eight years. In her free time she enjoyed doing the rummage sales and other church activities. She also enjoyed hiking, doing puzzles, camping and boating. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Madeline VanderZanden. Survivors include her husband Patrick E. Derrick of Vernonia, Oregon, one son, Jodi Derrick of Portland, Oregon, and two daughters, Rhonda Cutwright of Sherwood, Oregon and Carmen Derrick of Tigard, Oregon. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert VanderZanden of Woodburn, Oregon and Eugene VandeZanden of Piedmont, California and by four sisters, Evelyn Chalustowski of Germay, Diane VanderZanden of Hawaii, Regina Ferris of Aloha, Oregon and by Eilene VanGrunsven of Vancouver, Washington.
