Wilbur Elton Pond June 1, 1926-May 18, 2009 On May 22, 2009 funeral services were held at the Nechako Community Church in Vanderhoof British Columbia , Canada for Bill Pond. At his request, his best friends lovingly built a pine casket with his brand burned into the wood. He was driven by hearse to a small farm on the Blackwater where the casket was transferred to a buckboard wagon pulled by two black Percheron horses. He was driven by Wagon Masters Cliff Fawcette and Joe Robyler to his final resting place in Mapes Cemetery a few miles from his home. Bill moved from his home on Scappoose Vernonia Hwy. In 1964 to seek wide open spaces. He found them on 1100 acres in Vanderhoof. He was a cattleman, Brand Inspector and in his later years found his voice writing for the local newspaper. Music was always a part of his life and he played in a band with some local boys from Vanderhoof. He was well respected and loved and is survived by his wife Hilda, children Jim Hurtado, Carol Klassen, Judy Ekberg, his only surviving sister Betty Pond, her children Bonnie Davidson, Isabel Blake, Juanita Parker, Letha Johnson daughter of sister Marjorie Hamilton, Eleanor Savely, Linda Long and nephew Bob Wood children of sister Vera Ilene Wood, and many more nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He had one son from a previous marriage. He was two weeks shy of his 83 rd birthday. He will be missed. JACQUELINE LOUISE ULICK, age 69, a resident of the Vernonia community, died on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at her home in Vernonia, Oregon. A Private Family Gathering was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Private Interment will take place at a later date. JACQUELINE LOUISE ULICK, was born on October 18, 1939 in Sparta, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ryan William and Frederica Mary (Schiller) King. Jacqueline’s father was a military man so the family moved many times during her growing up years. She graduated from La Crosse High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1957.For the better part of twenty years, Jacqueline drove school bus while living in Wisconsin She married Arlen Ulick on June 1, 1982 in Polk County, Wisconsin and they made their home in Wisconsin until 1989 when they moved to Gresham, Oregon. They lived in Gresham for a short time before moving to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1991 and to North Plains, Oregon in 1996. In 2004 they bought a home in Vernonia, Oregon where they have lived since that move. They celebrated their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary on June 1 st of this year. While living in Washington County, Jacqueline worked for SPM Plastics and for Master Brand Cabinets until they closed down in 2007. Jacqueline was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Tigar Woods play in golf tournaments on television. She also was an avid Green Bay Packers football and Portland Trailblazers basketball fan. Survivors include; her husband, Arlen Ulick of Vernonia, Oregon, five children and their spouses, son, Glen A. DeMar, Jr. Of Gallesville, Wisconsin; daughter, Dawn M. Adamietz of Oakdale, Minnesota; daughter, Tammi L. DeMar of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; daughter, Traci L. Winjum and her husband, Jon of La Crosse, Wisconsin; son, David E. DeMar and his wife, Cynthia of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin; and by a brother and his wife, Brian and Mary Ann King of Rhode Island; and by a sister, Judith Wilfert of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Trinity, Gary, Samantha, Anthony, Benjamin, Christopher, Joseph and Kathleen and by six great grandchildren, Kylie, Daniel, Ashley, Lexi, Adrian and Kaya. LARDY, was born on March 18, 1975 in Hills- boro, Oregon, the daughter of Melvin Leopold and Joyce F. (John- son) Lardy, Jr. She grew-up in Sherwood and graduated from Sher- wood High School in 1993. She then attended Portland Business College before joining the U. S. Navy in 1994 and served three years in active duty and seven years in the reserves. She was member of the Future Family Community Leaders and enjoyed riding dirt bikes, playing cards, hunting and spending time with her son as well as her niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Melvin L. Lardy, Sr. in February of 2001. Melissa is survived by a son, Dante Ethan Lardy of Buxton, Oregon; her parents, Melvin L. Lardy, Jr., and Joyce of Buxton, Or- egon; a brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Kristen Lardy of Bux- ton, Oregon; a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Christopher Farris of Buxton, Oregon; and by her grandmother, Dean Lardy of Buxton, Oregon. Serving since 1953 Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home The future bride is the daughter of John and Vicki Weller, of Mist. She is a 2000 graduate of Vernonia High School and a 2006 gradu- ate of Central Oregon Community College, where she studied nurs- ing. She is a registered nurse in the surgery unit at St. Elizabeth Health Services in Baker City. The future groom is the son of Jeff and Judy Fields, of Bend. He is a 2001 graduate of Bend High School and a 2004 graduate of Central Oregon Community College, where he studied fire science and emergency medical services. He is a firefighter and a paramedic at the Baker City Fire Department. Graveside Services were held on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge Street in Vernonia, Oregon, with her grandson, John L. Boies, officiating. Concluding Rites and Interment followed at the cemetery. Family and friends awere invited to attend a reception immediately following the cemetery rites at the Vernonia Scout Cabin. MYRTLE JOANN SAVAGE was born March 13, 1923 in Vernonia, Oregon the daughter of the late Agustov Lindberg and Amanda (Peterson) Lindberg. She was raised and received her education in Vernonia. She was united in marriage to Mert “Leon” Savage on March 3, 1939 in Vernonia, Oregon. Following their marriage they resided in the Vernonia community. Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, on September 28, 1976 in Corvallis, Oregon, after celebrating over 37 years of marriage together. She later moved to Eugene, Oregon in June of 2008, to reside with her daughter and family, where she has resided since. Joann had worked for OSU in Corvallis as a custodian in the Student Health Center from 1959 to 1978 when she retired. Among her special interests she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo and tending to her flowers. Joann was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald Leon Savage in 1988; and by her twelve brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughter Dona Haskins, of Eugene, Oregon; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
