Join the conversation … ONLINE Stamp Out Hunger food drive postponed Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 28th annual Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive originally scheduled for May 9 was postponed. A new date has not yet been scheduled. The an- nual food drive is sponsored by the National Association of Let- ter Carriers (NALC), and is the largest one-day food drive in America. “We look forward to holding the largest one-day food drive in America when it is safe to do so,” the Letter Carriers posted on their web site. Women in Trades Career Fair postponed Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual Women in Trades Ca- reer Fair has been postponed until Sept. 25-26. The popular even sponsored by Oregon Trades- women Inc., gives women and teens a chance to learn more about careers in construction, mechani- cal, utility, and other trades. The fair is free and open to the public on Sept. 26. The day prior is re- served for schools. Labor Appreciation Night postponed The annual Labor Appreciation and Recognition Dinner spon- sored by the Northwest Oregon Labor Council has been post- poned until further notice due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. The event, now in its 23rd year, is a special evening honoring men and women identi- fied by their peers for outstanding contributions to labor and their community, and is a fundraiser for Labor’s Community Service Agency. The NW Oregon Labor Coun- cil will announce when a new date has been set. Washington CLUB golf tournament canceled The Washington CLUB Charity Golf Classic in Bremer- ton, Wash. has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pan- demic. “Although our event is still seven weeks away (June 16-17) and we are hopeful that some normalcy will return by mid-June, we are concerned about the WA State rules around ‘large gatherings’ and the safety of our participants,” said com- mittee chair Jon Bettendorf. This year’s event was to be a major celebration as it looked to celebrate its 20th anniversary. If you have sent in funds to cover participation or sponsor- ship of the 2020 event, CLUB will contact you directly to dis- cuss options around refunds and/or donations. If you have not submitted payment, please consider a donation to the char- ities. The CLUB event supports Diabetes Research Institute (DAD’s Day), Children’s Hos- pital of Seattle, and Holly Ridge Center (Bremerton). For several of the charities the donation the CLUB makes every year is one of their largest annual donations and critical for them and their mission.
