HAPPENINGS Labor history group puts out call for papers 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of a watershed year in American and Canadian labor history, espe- cially in the West. The year was de- fined by the Seattle and Winnipeg General Strikes, the Centralia Mas- sacre, and a wave of state-spon- sored repression of immigrant workers during the Palmer Raids. The Pacific Northwest Labor His- tory Association will reflect on those events at its annual confer- ence in Portland May 3-5. PNLHA has put out a call for pa- pers, presentations, performances and workshops that examine labor history of the past 100 years, espe- cially related to labor radicalism, patriarchy and feminism, employer and state repression, and racism. Submit one-page proposals elec- tronically by Jan. 7 to Conference Program Committee Coordinator Nikki Mandell at PNLHA2019@ gmail.com. PNLHA is also looking for sponsors to help fund the confer- ence. Money will be used to bring keynote speakers and hire union musicians and sound technicians, and pay printing and other ex- penses, including free conference registration for students. For more information, contact James Cook at 503-703-1693 or visit pnlha.org.
