HAPPENINGS Fire fighters camp for women 16 to 20 Applications are now being taken for women ages 16 to 20 interested in the Portland Metro Fire Camp. The three-day camp is an opportunity for the young women to ex- perience the unique aspects of being a fire- fighter. The camp is taught by female firefighters from various fire departments, including Portland, Tualatin Valley, and Vancouver. Participants are selected through an application process. “We try to accommodate as many campers as possible, which is why we are hosting two camps this year,” said Port- land firefighter Terra Van- dewiele. The first camp is July 13-15 at Portland Fire & Rescue’s training center, 4800 NE 122nd Ave. Portland. The second camp is Aug. 10- 12 at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue’s training center, 12400 SW Tonquin Rd, Sherwood. Applications can be found at https://www.portlandoregon. gov/fire/firecamp. Labor Bowl for MDA The 29th annual Labor Bowl Challenge is a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be held Sunday, April 8, at Sunset Lanes in Beaverton. The event is coordinated by the Na- tional Association of Letter Carri- ers (NALC) Branch 82 and the Northwest Oregon Labor Council. Money is raised through pledges and from a silent auction and goes to buy wheelchairs and braces for children, as well as for research and summer camps.
