HAPPENINGS Evangeline Lilly — the actor best known for her role in The Hobbit and the TV series Lost — will emcee a free concert to mobilize opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. Part of a nationwide tour, the Portland stop of Rock against the TPP will fea- ture the famed Pittsburg punk band Anti-Flag; Downtown Boys, the Prov- idence, Rhode Island, punk band that Rolling Stone Against the TPP: magazine called SAG-AFTRA member “ A m e r i c a ’ s Evangeline Lilly most exciting punk band”; Puerto Rican singer Taina Asili; Sihasin, a brother and sister duo from the Navajo punk band Blackfire; and New York-based Bell’s Roar. The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 20 , from 5-10 p.m. at Director Park across from Fox Tower, 815 SW Park Ave. The con- cert will be preceded by a 2 p.m. teach-in at Portland State University about the environmental conse- quences of the TPP. Then from 4 to 4:45 p.m, participants will march or bike from PSU through the South Park blocks to Director Park for the concert. Southwest Washington The 10th annual Chuck Drake Memo- rial Guide Dog Dash motorcycle poker run will be held Saturday, Aug. 27. The late Chuck Drake was a longtime member of Lodge 63 who helped found the Guide Dog Dash. The 155-mile ride will begin and end at the Machinists District W24 Hall, 25 Cornell Ave., Glad- stone, Oregon. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with the last rider out at 10:30 a.m. Reg- istration is $35 per rider and $10 per passenger, and includes a T-shirt, food after the ride, and raffle prizes. The Northwest Oregon Labor Coun- cil and Labor’s Community Service Agency are teaming up with American Red Cross again this Labor Day for a blood drive competition at the Sept. 5 picnic at Oaks Park. Bloodmobiles will be parked at the picnic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers are asking that union members pre-register so that dona- tions can be collected as quickly as possible. The blood donation process takes about an hour. The labor organization that col- lects the most units of blood will have its name added to a perpetual trophy, plus bragging rights for the entire year. Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals Local 5017 is the defending cham- pion.
