HAPPENINGS Labor history group issues call for papers The Pacific Northwest Labor History Association will host its annual conference in Portland next May 20-22 under the theme, “Labor, Justice and the Environment: Historical In- sights, Alliances and Chal- lenges.” PNLHA is a non-profit association of trade unionists, students, academics, and others dedicated to preserving the his- tory of workers in British Co- lumbia, Oregon and Washington. PNLHA issued a call for pa- pers, presentations, perform- ances, and workshops for the conference. It is particularly in- terested in proposals that ad- dress the relationship between workers, their unions and com- munity partners, and environ- mental justice issues. Other topics of interest in- clude: evolving forms of worker representation and organizing; organizing immigrant workers; women workers in the Pacific Northwest; 100th Anniversary of the Everett Massacre, and more. LERA awards presented The Oregon chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Asso- ciation (LERA) held its annual awards ceremony Nov. 17 at the World Trade Center in Portland. The awards program recognizes individuals from labor, manage- ment, academics and neutrals who have made major contributions to labor-management relations.
