JULY 18, 2008:NWLP 7/15/08 10:53 AM Page 6 Caterer signs with Bakers Local 114 Bakers Local 114 signed Almost Heaven Catering of Portland to a first- time union contract. Misty Wright is the owner of the business. She has been a member of the union since 1991. Wright started the catering company in 1985 on a part-time basis. Her full-time job was as a union baker and cake decorator. The company has now grown big enough that Wright is leaving her cake-baking gig to focus full attention on catering. One of the first things she did was sign an agreement with Local 114. Wright will employ union bakers and will shop at union stores for union- made goods, she said. Local 114 Secretary-Treasurer Terry Lansing urges union locals and their members to consider Almost Heaven Catering for any events they have planned. K Wright says she can easily manage a wedding reception of more than 700, giving it the same attention she would a romantic dinner for two. “Almost Heaven Catering is com- mitted to providing nutritionally- sound meals tailored to fit our cus- tomers’ specific dietary needs, inclusive of their cultural heritage,” she said. Wright holds degrees in both bak- ing and cooking. In addition to run- ning a business, she also mentors young adults in the artistry of cooking and baking, and hosts in-home cook- ing classes for those interested in hands-on cooking or baking training. Almost Heaven Catering can be reached at 503-789-6297 or online at www.almostheavencatering.com.
