There are many well know n events taking place in Portland that have become a tradition for some. Ticket prices vary with age: $10.75 for adults, $7.75 for kids, $9.25 for seniors (65 and over), and infants enter free. Another fun tradition is the Christmas Ship Parade. Conducted ev ery year by volunteer recreational boaters, two fleets of almost 60 ships total travel down the Willamette and Columbia « * u ■ «• * * . s After a cold day at the mountain or coming home from a holiday shopping spree, these two winter recipes will warm you up with the taste of the holidays. Cinnamon spice coffee drink Ingredients: 2/3 cup instant coffee 11/3 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon allspice Directions Mix all ingredients and put into a blender and blend to a fine powder. To use, add approxi mately 2 rounded teaspoons per cup of boiling water or to suit your own taste. Portland is host to many yearly winter events such as the Christmas Ship Parade and the Pioneer Square holiday tree lighting. rivers decked out in Christ mas lights to entertain the public. The Christmas Ship will begin on Dec. 9. and ends on the 21. Other seasonal activities around Portland include skiing or snowboarding up at Mt. Hood, driving around to see the Christmas light displays and playing out in the snow (if it does snow this year). Portland also has plenty of festivals and markets worth visit- ing as well, such as the Hillsdale Winter Farmer's market. Definitely worth visiting, the H illsdale market is a great place to eat some tasty food, find a homemade gift for Christmas, or listen to holiday music. Explore Portland and you'll be sure to find some great places to visit and events to experience this holiday season. 1 package (3-ounce) cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 cups all-purpose flour Red paste food coloring Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Reduce speed to low; gradually beat in flour. Press dough in 5-inch strips on an ungreased large cookie sheet. Bend one end of each strip to shape into candy cane. Bake cookies 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned on bottom.
