Instead of having five or six hours in one night it's one or two hours every night." — Kendall Stow ell H alie O wens & M ichael M c N inch i r At the recent Scholastic Art Competition 13 students won honors and three artists, Chloe Coates, senior, (painting), Emma Kennard, freshman, (two drawings), and Jordan LeVeque, senior, (drawing), won gold keys. "The Scholastic Art Awards event is a nationally recognized program that honors excellence in the visual arts," Lynn Pass, art teacher, said. Silver key winners included: Julia Tatiyatrairong, sophomore, (fashion and mixed media), and Jeffrey Schafer, senior, (glass). Honorable mention winners included: Avery Breyne-Cartwright, senior, (photo), Maxwell Gerber, senior (design), Sam Ihrig, senior, (painting), Samantha Neverick, sophomore, (painting), Kristina Reeves, senior, (painting), Dana Rost, freshman, (drawing), and Taylor White, junior, (mixed media). "The liisf will change at least five or six [times," Rollins went on to say, "Many seniors have dropped out or are not going to take part in the commencement." Plans had been made for the class of '83 to have commencement held in Portland. Many Portland schools have theirs held at the Rose Gardens in Portland Heights. Leaving the West Linn Community was too expensive. "The community people had some concern about the danger of leaving West Linn," explained Located in the basement, through a series of storage rooms and locked doors lies the Vault. June 7,1983 the West Linn seniors will gather together to graduate on the football field (weather permitting). If it does rain, graduation will be held in the gym. The ceremony will begin with a short introductory speech by class President Josh Lohman. Then principal, Dick Sagor and Superintendant, Dealous Cox, will take over the program. Finally coming to the end when Student Body president and valedictorian Terry Donahe and vice president Heidi Geldaker will hand out diplomas. After the graduation ceremonies have finished, almost the whole class will be together for the last time. "We're boarding a bus to an unknown destination," smiled senior, Tami Tuers. 'To celebrate," she added. The graduates will dance and party together to one of Portland's top bands, "Billy Rancher and the Unreal Gods" and come home at 7:30 a.m. to West Linn High School. After graduation night is over, most of the senior class will split up and go to different colleges.
