w News Next year's ASB aim to bring spirit back to WL m HlLLl CiAVARELLQ Connor Deeks of what would be better." Staff Reporter What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I have the role of president and I have to take care of the school like it is my first bom child. I have to meet with the administration, help with ASB funds and make decisions on the spending. This entails dances and events." What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "As president I will plan more assemblies as well as more fun ones. I will help plan dances and other presidential stuff. I will do all this by yelling and getting my point across as well as asking the student body what they want because ultimately my ideas and actions would be over the top in money and reality. I can't wait to run the school as a dictator. '08." Connor Deeks Hillary Obye What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I am ASB vice-president and I am the only returning member from this year ('06- '07). Next year I will know how everything is run, and I will hopefully make sure ASB stays organized and on track." Michael Bemert Michael Bemert What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I have to opportunity to be public relations officer for the 2007-2008 ASB. This role will entail communicating news to media outlets and managing community relationships." What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "I believe that the West Linn community has tremendous opportunities to address past difficulties and build on traditional strengths. Increasing student service opportunities and instilling a sense of pride in our community are two specific and pressing opportunities for West Linn. Creating an environment conducive to communication is the first step to achieving these goals. Accordingly, I encourage all students and faculty members to share their ideas with incoming ASB members and to become active participants in the discussion about the kind of school we want to create." Charlie Steele What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I am Charles B. Steele, I am the new Deputy of Spirit. My job is to get people excited and spirited for up coming events, like home sporting events. Also, I hope I can improve attendance to other major events that occur at our school. Drama and Band are two examples that we are lackluster in attending. That is my role; I am in charge of spirit." Hillary Obye What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? T think that we should improve upon the relationship between the student body and ASB, meaning that the students get more of what they want. I will accomplish this by making students more aware of what is happening at West Linn and see if they have any ideas/suggestions to raise not only awareness but a willingness to solve this global climate crisis. I hope to make recycling a major thing at our school. I want to hear kids upset when the can’t recycle their soda can or water bottle. I hope to bring more recycle bins from outside and out of mind inside and into the minds of the students and staff. I hope we can make recycling easy to do and throwing garbage away hard. The other goal that I am very interested in is to bring students and staff back to sporting events. Many students work very hard all year on their sport with many of us playing more than one. When the student body doesn't show, our performance can reflect it. Nothing beats coming to school after a big win and having the student body already know your achievement. I hope that with help from the student body, I can start to achieve my goals. Spirit has always been something we try to increase every year. However, hopefully this year it will become a reality. But most important to me I want this school to be an outstanding example of what it means to be "green" I think there are many ways this school can not only be a "green school" but can be the shinning model for the rest of the county, and state to follow. We already are a city on a hill, so to speak. Let's be the school on the hill as well." Charlie Steele What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "My goals for next year are to make our school a far "greener" place. My aspiration and dream for next year, is Ben Morrow Ben Morrow What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "My role on ASB is Secretary Treasurer. This entails managing how our money is spent and ensuring it is spent wisely. In addition, I will help with the general duties of ASB and assist in any way needed." What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "I feel West Linn could improve in several areas. First, I think we need fair funding for all sports at our high school. I plan to encourage recognition of all sports and make sure they all have proper funding. In addition, West Linn needs better rules at lunch. For example, I hope to allow underclassmen more off- campus opportunities during lunch. And, on campus, let everyone eat in popular areas such as the new building. Lastly, I feel our high school can improve on our school activities such as assemblies, dances and other events. I plan to make these events more fun and enjoyable so more students will want to participate." your plans to accomplish that? "I would like more school involvement!" Alyssa Aramaki Alyssa Aramaki Maddie Kiely Maddie Kiely What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I will be Activities Coordinator. That means I'm going to being working with assemblies and all the fun stuff!" What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "I would like to get everybody more involved in the community. There are people who need help all around us every day, and I think we can work on trying to see these people and extend a hand. My plan to address this issue is to make school wide public community service options, and to do a different issue awareness campaign every month. That way, not only do we have the ability to take part in our city's community, we can also give ourselves an active and knowledgeable role in the global community as well." Courtney Sunderland What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "As a junior officer next year, I won't have a specific role. The four juniors will assist the seniors and work with them on whatever needs getting done." What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "I think our school needs more pride. I don't just mean more school spirit, cheering at football games, or having fun at assemblies, but actually taking pride in ourselves as a school. We are really lucky to have such a nice school to attend, with a great academic program and great extracurricular activities, s o w e n e e d to a p p r e c i a t e 4g||f that. I think having more schoolwide service projects would be a great way to bring our school together and show that we appreciate what we have and that we will give back. I know it sounds cheesy, but serving can help us have more pride in ourselves as individuals and as a school." Amber Arrigotti What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I'm basically just here to do whatever anyone needs me to do, and put in some good ideas. I'm going to be a junior officer, so I don't have an exact position." What is your role on ASB, and what does it entail? "I am the Homeland Security Officer, I will be making the videos that inform the student body on what's happening." Amber Arrigotti What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are your plans to accomplish that? "I think that we could improve on having activities Courtney Sunderland What do you feel WL could improve upon? What are mm ass______________ u continued on page 3 All ASB photos by Malia C h < ^ ^
