L. Bleachers to seat 300 people are now under construction on the West Linn gridiron. The ground has been leveled and construction of the bleach- ers is well under way. Next year, according to Princi pal J. L. Gary, the bleachers will be enlarged into a grandstand to seat 1000. The proposed stand' will have a roof that will keep all spectators dry during rain. Dressing room for the teams are to be built beneath the stand and a press box commanding a good view of the field will be built atop the roof. A steel fence is also to be erected around the field next year. West Linn had bleachers on the field until 1928 when they were torn down since their aged condition made them a hazard. Court Takes No Action As Yet As school once again swings back into action, also does! the Student Court with Chick Elliott as Chief Justice, John Nolan as Chief Police, and a jury of seven who will be chosen from all of the students. As yet the court has not set a specific date to con vene, but, “it will probably be within the next week,” thus said John Nolan. Everyone knows the reason for the student court, but, for those who do not, it is our school court to honestly try and sentence those who have been charged and arrested by the student po lice. Chick has not as yet appointed his secretary, or John has not chosen the jury, but as soon as this is done the court will be ready to carry on. W. L Lions To Meet Tigard Eleven Today Prospects Good For Music Dept. The prospects for the year in the music department of West Linn high school are the best ever, according to Mr. Wade, music director of West Linn high school. A boy’s glee club has been organized this year, consisting of about 26 students. It was re ported that they are doing most satisfactory work. Several new instruments have been added to the music depart ment. One baritone, one march ing drum and à piano will be installed within the next few days. The students who are in the band have been doing very good marching. Mr. Wade believes it to be the best marching ever done by the band. There will be drum majors and majorettes taking part in the Models from our leading cloth band this year. West Linn’s football team, un der Coaches J. P. Brown and Sam Nixon meet the Tigard eleven at Tigard this afternoon in the Lions’ second league game df the year. The West Linn squad is rated high in the TYV conference since they defeated Sherwood las’t week, and due to this will go into the game favored to win. The Lions will have a heavier and more experienced bunch than the Tigard aggregation, Judging from the Sherwood game bad weather should be no stop to Coach Brown’s boys. Don Vinton will be captain and signal caller for West Linn. Stef fen, Langliers, Baisch, Merkle and Elliot will all see action in the backfield. Positions in the forward wall will be fined by King, Ivins, Ness, Kahl, Wood- worth, Donovan, Buckles, Larson, Shevens, Critchfield and Swan. Though no statement is forth coming from Coach Brown, West Linn may be expected to rely on passes as well as on runs for yardage, as the team has demon strated a pretty fair aerial at tack as well as power on the ground. The main danger to the West Linn bunch is overconfidence, for if the squad gets the wrong at titude they may find a hustling Tigard team out ahead. Freshmen Victors In Tournament The freshman defeated the sophomores in the jousting tour nament held in the gymnasium, Thursday, Sept. 19, by a score of 3 to 2. This has been the first tournament of this nature held at West Linn as a contest between the freshmen and the sopho mores. The bag rush, which was an annual affair in former years, was disbandoned this year. Those on the teams were: Freshman—John Gist, Milton Bucklin, Tom Van Laningham, Donald Dennis, Reuben Baisch, and the coach, Mr. Main. On the sophomore team —• Dick Smith, Leslie Ream, Robert Green,Clar ence Vlone, Bud Peterson and the coach Mr. Tunnell.
