Thief caught with stolen car, beer
On July 10, 2017 at
11:15 a.m., the Baker
County Dispatch Center
received a call regarding
the possible location of a
vehicle that had been sto-
len out of Ontario, Oregon.
The reporting party
stated that her sister, Diana
Catherine Rasmussen, had
taken her vehicle without
permission and that she
believed it had been driven
to Huntington.
A Baker County Sheriff’s
Offi ce Deputy located the
vehicle at a residence in
Huntington.
The owner of the
residence told deputies that
Rasmussen had driven to
his house in the stolen ve-
hicle, brought beer into the
home, and woke him up.
The owner gave depu-
ties permission to enter the
residence. Deputies located
Rasmussen on the couch in
the residence.
Rasmussen was arrested
for Unauthorized Use of a
Motor Vehicle.
Deputies transported her
to the Baker County Jail
where she was booked and
lodged.
Cessna crashes near Baker City
On July 9, 2017 at
approximately 6:29 a.m.,
the Baker County Consoli-
dated Dispatch Center re-
ceived a 911 call reporting
a glider had crashed near
the Baker City Airport, in
the area of Lindley Lane
and S. Airport Road.
Personnel from the
Baker County Sheriff’s
Offi ce, the Baker City Fire
Department and Baker
Rural Fire responded to the
scene.
It was discovered the
aircraft was actually a
Cessna 180 airplane.
The plane had been
occupied by the pilot,
Peter Taylor, of Red Bluff,
California and his pas-
senger, Daniel Sprague, of
Roseburg, Oregon.
During the course of the
initial investigation it was
discovered that the plane
had fl own to Baker City
from McCall, Idaho.
While en route, a few

miles from the Baker City
airport, the airplane’s en-
gine failed. In his attempt
to land the plane at the
airport, with no power,
Taylor landed in the
fi eld east of the runway.
Taylor suffered a small
cut on the top of his right
hand, which was the only
reported injury at the
scene.
Control of the crash
site was eventually turned
over to the FAA for fur-
ther investigation.
The Baker County
Sheriff’s Offi ce would
like to thank Larry and
Jeff Morris for their as-
sistance.
The duo used a swather
to cut a path from the
road to the crash scene
and provided the use of a
UTV for the occupants of
the plane to recover their
property.
