KEATING SCHOOL PLAY The Keating Elementary students cordially invite the community to the Keating Elementary School on Thursday, May 25th for the produc- tion of “Cindy Ellen, A Wild Western Cinderella Story.” There will be a pulled pork barbecue dinner at 5 p.m., with Keating students perform- ing music during the dinner. A dessert auction will follow the dinner, which is the main source of fundraising for Keating Elementary. The des- serts are amazing and well worth bidding on and taking home to enjoy. After a delicious meal, Keating students will be entertaining you with a western style Cinderella play, complete with dancing and singing. Plan on a night of fun and entertainment. There will be a private family gathering in Halfway later this summer. Bethel Viola was born in Coos Bay, Oregon and was a fifth generation Orego- nian. She graduated from Marshfield high school in 1952. Beth worked at the Bay City Hospital for five years. She was married to Ray Davidson from 1955 to 1971, they had one son, Joe. Beth worked at vari- ous banks for 15 years. Her favorite was the time at Western Bank. In 1978 she married Dean Thomas, a retired banker with four children. They purchased a mom and pop grocery store in Ventura, California which they operated for five years. They moved to Halfway, Oregon where they purchased 80 acres of timber and built a beautiful log home. They enjoyed retirement together from 1985 until Dean’s death in 2008. She relocated to Turner and then Stayton Oregon to be near her son and grand children after Dean’s passing. Beth and Dean were involved in VFW and were members of the Pine Val- ley Grange. Beth enjoyed dancing, gardening, yard work and her eight grand- children. She attended Richland Christian Church. Beth loved the color red and Spring. Her favorite poem “Oh why should the spirit of man be proud.” She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, parents Norris & Jamie de Lore; brother Ed de Lore. Lucille R. Rosenau Formerly of Halfway, 1922-2017 Lucille R. Rosenau (Weeks) passed away on April 25, 2017 outside of Halfway, Lucille Oregon. Rosenau Lucille was born in Pendleton, Oregon on May 10, 1922, the middle child of the five children of Mabel and Charles Weeks. She and her husband, Walter Rosenau were ranchers, foster parents, caregivers and White Salmon, Washington FFA leaders. Ernest Lloyd Shields Baker City, 1940-2017 Ernest Loyd Shields Jr. 77, a resident of Baker City died Wednesday in Ashley Manor. Memorial services for Mr. Shields was held Monday May 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Coles Tribute Center. Pastor Jon Privett of The Baker City Church of The Nazarene officiated. Inurnment and military honors will be held in Wil- lamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR. Mr. Shields was born March 2, 1940 in Port- land, OR, a son of Ernest Loyd and Dorothy (Dick) Shields Sr. He gradu- ated from Shoreline High School in Seattle, WA in 1958 and enlisted into the US Marine Corps, serving until 1964, he was a Lance Corporal. Mr. Shields worked in the Ron Tonkin Chevrolet Parts Dept., retiring in 2002. He married Betty Neff in Baker City, OR April 29, 2000. Mr. Shields enjoyed woodworking, bird watch- ing and family time. He married Donna Lee Watts on December 27, 1958 in Baker City, Oregon and together they had six children; Larry, Chriss, Daniel Jr., Bruce, Gina, and Dale. He was also a proud grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and great-grandfather to ten. Daniel and Donna were married for 58 years before his passing. He was a gemologist, master watchmaker and jeweler before retiring in 2002. Daniel owned and operated Dan’s Fine Jewelry in Baker City for 45 years. Basketball, hunt- ing, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family were some of the things he enjoyed the most. Daniel was proud to be affiliated with the Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge. Daniel leaves behind his loving wife Donna Mack of Elk, Washington; sons Larry Mack and wife Josi, Chriss Mack and wife Carolyn, Daniel Mack Jr. and wife Lena, Bruce Mack and wife Tami, and Dale Mack and fiancé; Sheila Baker, one daughter Gina Mack Villalobos and husband Joe; sister Peggy Mack and two brothers Anton (Tony) Mack and Lawrence Mack.
