Marlinda Sue Baisley Baker City, 1952-2017 Marlinda Sue Baisley died April 23, 2017 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City surrounded by her family. A Private Family Interment with Military Honors will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City. Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017~ 3:00pm at the Baker Christian Church on Highway 7. Marlinda was born May 4, 1952 to parents Vern and Sue Baisley in Baker, Or- egon. She began her educa- tion in Unity, Oregon later moving to Baker when she was in 2nd grade. Around 5th grade the family moved into a home her family had built on 160 acres Marlinda outside of Baisley Baker on Alder Creek Road. Marlinda loved spending time outdoors. She rarely met an animal she did not like, whether they were pet snakes named Herman and Sally or a spirited horse. Any lost or injured animal that crossed Marlinda’s path would soon find its way into her loving care. She had sheep and cattle projects in 4-H, and was a natural showman. Horse- back riding was one of her favorite hobbies. She would spend hours with her neighbor friend roam- ing the areas around Alder Creek on horseback. After graduating from BHS in 1970 she joined the Navy. Proudly, Marlinda served her country from February 1971 to February 1974. While in the service she spent time in Virginia and Maryland. Upon returning home from her military service, Marlinda began working for the telephone company as an operator in Baker City. Eventually she moved to Pendleton, Oregon and continued her work in the communications industry as an Engineering As- sistant. She also lived for a while in Yakima, WA; Spokane, WA, and Burns, OR. Later she returned to her beloved hometown of Baker City, Oregon. Even as an adult, animals were the center of her world. She adored dogs, and she was especially fond of her Dobermans and Min Pins. Her dogs were her babies and her life revolved around caring for them and loving them. When she wasn’t caring for her pets, she was tend- ing to her plants. Her home was an oasis of beautiful houseplants, talk about a green thumb. Garden- ing was a favorite hobby, from delicious tomatoes to gorgeous flowering plants there didn’t seem to be any plant that would not thrive under her care. Marlinda was an avid reader from the time she was in grade school and enjoyed many different genres. She even tried her own hand at writing from poetry to fantasy stories. Later in life, Marlinda developed a passion for cooking. Her favorite thing to do was to take an ordinary recipe and add a little of this or a bit of that to make it her own. Lucky for her family she enjoyed nourishing them all with her delicious creations. Marlinda was proceeded in death by her father Vern Baisley; nephew Billy Le- thlean; Fur Baby “Stinger” who was always at her side and still is. She is survived by her mother Sue Baisley of Baker City, Or.; brother Michael Baisley of Bend, Or.; Sisters Diana and her husband Paul York of LaGrande, Or., Gladys and her husband Kim Lethlean of Baker City, Or., Sami and her husband Dennis Walton of Payette, Idaho; nieces Denise York- Cal- lahan and Taylor Ellis; nephews Jason York, Jer- emiah Baisley and Dustin Lethlean.
