The shows on Friday, the 10th and Saturday, the 11th will be at 7 p.m. and the show on Sunday, the 12th will be at 3 p.m. The Gala is not just for theatre members and advertisers. Everyone is invited to attend. Also there will be complimentary refreshments and beverages. Members and adver- tisers will be admitted for free while tickets for the general public are $10. Those people who wish to buy a membership at any of the three shows may at- tend for free. Tickets are available at Betty’s Books and at the door. The shows will be presented in the Iron Gate Theatre, upstairs in the Basche Sage Mall, on the corner of Main and Broadway in Baker City. SPRING BAZAAR The seniors at Community Connection will have their 22nd Annual Spring Bazaar on Saturday, April 8th, 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Community Con- nection, 2810 Cedar Street, Baker City. Vendor tables are now available to rent, for displaying their handcraft, gift, food, and collectible items. Accord- ing to Mary Jo Carpenter, chairman of the Bazaar, there will be a luncheon served from noon to 1:00 p.m., for a minimal charge. The proceeds from the bazaar will go to the senior nutrition program, and is a part of the regular fundraising activities of the Baker Seniors, who raise an average of $8,000 per year to support senior programs. Online condolences may be shared at www.tamispinevalleyfuner- alhome.com. — Obituaries — Alvin Clyde Ward Baker City, 1923-2017 Alvin Clyde Ward died in his home on the ranch he loved February Alvin 25, 2017 Ward at the age of 93. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints located at 2625 Hughes Lane, Baker City, OR. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception after the services in the LDS Church Multipurpose room. Alvin was born October 13, 1923 in Baker City, Oregon to Levi Clyde Ward and Lenora Renz Ward. After graduating from Baker High School in 1941 he attended Oregon State University and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho agricultural fraternity. During WWII he worked at North American Aviation and the Oregon shipyards until he returned to Baker City to join in partnership with his father’s farming operation which became Clyde Ward and Son’s. He loved farm- ing and ranching and was a farmer and cattleman all his life. In 1951 Alvin married Lois Ann Baxter and continued his work on the Ranch. Ward Ranches grew to one of the largest farming and cattle opera- tions in Baker County for many years. Alvin was a farmer and a stockman and managing partner of the 1000 head cattle, range, and feedlot end of the Ward Ranches for forty fi ve years. He had many civic and community leadership positions included found- ing president of the Baker County Farm Bureau in 1946. He also rendered his services for eleven years on the Baker County Plan- ning Commission. He was instrumental in the formation of the Baker Valley Irrigation District where he served both on the board and as the president for over 25 years. During this time he was the driving force in get- ting authorization for the Mason Dam Project which when completed was a boon to the Baker valley. In his younger years he was the president of the Baker County Quarter Horse Association and Team Roping Club. He was a member of the Baker County Livestock Associa- tion and on the board of directors. Alvin donated time, labor, and fi nancial support for the purchase of land for Camp Elkhorn used by the Silver Sage Girl Scout Council for many years. He had a lifetime member- ship in the Sumpter Valley Railroad, Oregon Wheat League, and Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After partial retirement Alvin sold real estate for Baker City Realty and served as president of the Baker County Board of Realtors. He was also a member of the Baker County Historical Society and donated many artifacts during his three years as president. Alvin received many awards for his service and leadership in many of these community organiza- tions as well as being a top salesman as a realtor. Alvin enjoyed water and snow skiing, cattle roping competitions, hunting and fi shing and family dinners at Christmas. He loved playing the piano and be- ing around his cattle and ranch dogs. His work was his hobby and he loved nothing more than to spend time working on his family ranch, even into his retire- ment years. He is survived by his daughters Karen Martin, Julee Huston, and Kim- berlee Shelton, 7 grand- children, 18 great grand- children, his brother Ralph Ward and sister Charlotte Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, and his son Steven. Anna Inez Lewter Baker City, 1923-2017 Anna Inez Lewter, 94, of Baker City, Or- egon passed away at her residence on February Anna Lewter 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. There was a viewing on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 2 - 5 p.m. and on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 8 - 10 a.m. at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel located at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, Oregon. On February 18, 1923 Charles and Inez (Jackson) Raef gave birth to little Anna in St. Francis, Texas. She married Forrest W. (Bill) Lewter on Decem- ber 28, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas and together they had a daughter and a son, Sheron and Larry. Anna worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital for 30 years as a seamstress and laundress before she retired in 1994. She enjoyed sewing, putting puzzles together, fi shing, cooking and baking and she was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxil- iary. Anna did many great things in her life but the accomplishment she was most appreciated for was raising and caring for her big family. Anna leaves behind her daughter, Sheron Lewter of Baker City, Oregon; her son, Larry Lewter and daughter in-law Betty Lewter of Hermiston, Oregon; her sisters, Ruby Gabel of Amarillo, Texas, Pearl Berres of Lubbock, Texas, and Opal and Leonard Walterschied of Hereford, Texas and her sister in-law Bernadina of San Diego, California. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchil- dren. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Inez Raef; her husband Forrest (Bill) Lewter; and her brothers Frank, Leo, Edmond, Fred, Lawrence and James Raef. Anna is also preceded in death by her sister Edith Beckman and her brother in-law Joe Beckman.
