Parole and Probation Detainer. — Obituaries — Howard “Gene” Button Baker City, 1949-2017 Howard “Gene” But- ton, 67 died on Monday February 6, 2017 at his residence Gene surrounded Button by his be- loved family. A celebration of life for Gene will be announced in the spring. On August 30, 1949 Gene was born to loving parents Howard and June Button in Kansas City, Missouri. Gene was an Army veteran who served from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was in charge of devel- oping a military police training school for the 6th Army in Fort Lewis, Washington; he received the Army Commendation Medal for creating the school. Gene earned two higher education degrees; a BS in General Studies and a BS in Community Service, earning both from Eastern Oregon State College. He worked for Washing- ton State University Police Department for eight years before working in North Bend and then fi nally working in La Grande for the last eight years before retiring as a Sergeant after a total of 22 years in law enforcement. After retir- ing from law enforcement, Gene began working as the Executive Director for Step Forward Activi- ties and had only recently retired after 27 years. From a young age, Gene had been fond of Little League Baseball; he himself played for years and then coached his chil- dren and grandchildren. Anytime he was able, he donated funds to the Little League; he also donated and supported high school sports. Gene enjoyed working on car models, build- ing them and then giving them to his wife’s music students. He was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son Mathew Charles Button. Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Button; his oldest son Mark Button, wife Sara and their daughters Kate and Leah; his daugh- ter Jennifer Button and her daughter Samantha; Mathew’s widow Christina and their children Darwin and Dagan. Donald Lesley Shuck Donald Lee Emerson Baker City, 1927-2017 Baker City, 1947-2017 Donald Lesley Shuck, a life- time resident of Baker City, Oregon passed away Don Tuesday, Shuck February 7, 2017 at Meadowbrook Place Se- nior Living. He was born June 19, 1927 to parents Lesley and Anne Shuck. He was the oldest of four siblings; Elaine, Billie, Dickie and Pat. Don graduated from Baker High School in 1945 and shortly thereaf- ter worked two years for the U.S. Forest Service burning slash piles. He later worked several years for Chet Smith Motors quickly being promoted to mechanic and manager. Don decided he needed a change and went to work as a machinist for Com- mercial Welding. After re- tirement, he continued his machinist work from his home shop. Many people would comment that he was a brilliant machinist, “There was nothing he couldn’t manufacture in his shop.” On February 4, 1950 he married Betty Jane Averitt. Together they built a home that he continued to live in until recently. Betty passed away June 23, 1997. On July 21, 1999 he married Ava Sipp and together they enjoyed spending time outdoors. Ava passed away March 7, 2006. Don was a kind, loyal and generous husband, son, brother and friend. He loved square danc- ing, 4-wheeling, hunting, camping and tinkering in his shop. He is survived by his sister Billie Stoner (Jyme); his brother-in-law Anton (Tony) Williamson; Ava’s family and many nieces, nephews and friends. At his request, there will be no memorial service. During the summer, his family will host a barbe- cue at Stices Gulch and plant a tree in his memory. Family and friends will be invited. Should friends and fam- ily desire memorial con- tributions may be made to Donald Lee Emerson, age 70, formerly of Adams- ville, Ohio, passed away on February Don 3, 2017 at Emerson his home in Baker City, Oregon. Don attended Adamsville High School before enlist- ing in the Air Force, where he earned his GED. After completing his service, he traveled extensively and worked on oil wells in Louisiana, Texas, and Wyoming as well as Libya, Venezuela, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He then spent 22 years as an inde- pendent long-haul trucker and was still working in that capacity at his death. He is survived by his son, Ty Emerson (Sarah Linnemeyer); his daughter, Jena Emerson; his beloved grandson, Aries; siblings, Larry Emerson, Patri- cia Emerson and Susan Emerson (Bob Beasley); fi ve nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Lois (Schuff) Emerson; his father, Earl Emerson, and his mother, Anna Emerson. James Henry Bobo, Jr. Baker City, 1938-2017 James (Jim) Henry Bobo Jr. 78, of Baker City, died with his fam- ily at his side Jim on Tuesday Bobo evening, February 2, 2017. - A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at his son Keith Bobo’s home on 38789 Old Highway 30 (watch for signs) Friends are invited to join the fam- ily for a reception to be held immediately follow- ing the service. James was born July 14, 1938 to James H. Bobo Sr. and Lula E Bobo in Redlands, Ca. He was raised and educated in Redlands, graduating high school in 1956. Later that year, Jim, enlisted in the United States Navy serv- ing honorably for 4 years. Upon returning to Red- lands he met and married Arlene Soffel. After riding in trucks with his Dad at early age, Jim fell in love with trucks and became a truck driver. According to his brother Dave, “he was the very best.” Over the years Jim drove for many different companies’ and trained many new drivers. On several occasions Jim even fi red a few drivers because they were not very clean, smoked or just not truck drivers in his opin- ion. Jims last truck driving job, and one of his favor- ite, was Sherman Trucking in Baker City, Or. Both Scott Sherman and his wife Kerry were always so good to Jim up to his last days and Jim’s family will be forever grateful. Jim’s brother Dave fondly remembers the trips made in the truck together. In addition Dave’s fondly remembers the rides they made together to Mormon Basin and Burnt river Canyon eating donuts and drinking coffee. There were many hunting trips over the years with his boys and camping trips with his daughter and son in law. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, a baby sister Jeannie Louise and sister Betty Ann and son in law Anthony Crumpler. Jim is survived by his brother David W. Bobo and his wife Carol in addi- tion to his children: Debbie Crumpler-who lived with Jim and took care of Jim the last 2 ½ years of his life. James H Bobo III and his wife Teresa, Lynda Amundson and her husband Dean, Keith A Bobo and his wife Carolyn and David M Bobo and his wife Jennifer. He has 16 grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren and his last companion his Dog Bo. He will be greatly missed.
