Barbara She and her Barbour two broth- ers, Don and Earl, had scarlet fever when they were toddlers. This affected their hearing. They were still able to talk. Barbara was sent to the Berkeley School for the Deaf. After graduation, Barbara worked at the school as a fi le clerk. She had to stop working in her late teens when they discovered an inoperable brain tumor, which caused her to have vertigo for the rest of her life. She wasn’t supposed to live past her mid-twenties. Neither of these challenges stopped Barbara from living a full life. She was unstoppable and defi ed all the odds. Even in these later years, when she had to use a walker to get around, Barbara only new one speed, fast—go—go. She was a wife, a home- maker, and a talented lady. She was a seamstress and did exceptional needle- point work. Anything Barbara set her mind to, she accomplished. When her nephew Don was a teenager, he and Barbara did the mechanical work on the 1931 Model A that Barbara and her hus- band Bill owned. After losing her husband Bill over 35 years ago, Barbara remained independent and always on the go. She loved life. She had no patience. She was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to all she came in contact with. She was 99 years old and she was a pistol. We cherish her and will miss her in our life. She left us on Thursday, Febru- ary 2, 2017 in Baker City, Oregon. Aunt Barbara is sur- vived by her nephew and niece-in-law Don and Judy Lange of Richland, Or- egon. On line condolences may be shared at www. tamispinevalleyfuneral- home.com. Wadean Modell Rohner Holcomb Baker City, 1921-2017 Wadean Modell Rohner Holcomb a Baker County resident for over 90 years Wadean Holcomb entered into rest January 12th 2017 at the age of 95 at Ashley Manor Living Facility with her family at her bedside. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richland Christian Church with Pastor Gordon Bond offi ciating. A reception will follow the service at the church Fellowship Hall. Wadean was born May 1st, 1921 in Wingville, Oregon to William Henry Rohner and Bertha Tanner Rohner. She was raised in Wingville where she learned her hard work ethic on the family farm which included many outdoor tasks including milking the cows and tending the chickens. She married George Noble Holcomb on July 12, 1942 in Wingville. They resided at the Hol- comb Ranch in Richland, OR where they operated a sheep ranch that later became a full time cattle ranch. Wadean contributed to the ranch by being a homemaker, this included preparing meals for the lambing crews, keeping a plentiful garden and pre- serving the harvest. Wadean attended Baker High School and Baker Business College. She studied Home Economics at Oregon State College (now OSU) for two years. She was a member of Baker County Garden Club and Order of Eastern Star, Esther Chap 11. She was blessed with a keen mind until recent years. Her many interests included her love of gardening and cooking. She was patri- otic; the respect and honor she demonstrated to our US Military was without waver. In 2012, Wadean’s wish materialized as the John Holcomb Memo- rial Park was dedicated in Richland, Oregon. She had a great love for Baker County and considered it “God’s country.” Wadean lived through the depres- sion during her early life and that helped to form her conservative frugal nature and the ideology of saving for a rainy day that she practiced daily. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sons John Noble and William “Bill” Dean. Wadean is survived by her sister Gloria Linebaugh of Bend, daughter-in-law Wanda Holcomb of Rich- land, three granddaughters Shannon (Marin) Miller, Gloria (Carlos) Montes, Christy Holcomb and six great grandchildren. In lieu of fl owers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Eagle Valley Ambulance or a charity of choice through Gray’s West & Co. at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
