Campbell St.
BY KERRY McQUISTEN
News@TheBakerCountyPress.com
A storage shed, owned
by Tom Bootsma off 14th
Street and Campbell, burst
into flames during the
night last Saturday.
The fire, which started
just after midnight, quickly
destroyed the building,
some equipment left in-
side, and one vehicle.
Responders from the
Baker City Fire Depart-
ment, Baker Rural Fire,
Haines and Bowen Valley
fire departments all fought
the blaze throughout the
night and into the next
morning.
A representative from
the State Fire Marshall’s
Office remained on site
for the following two days
investigating the scene due
to suspicion.

Fighting the fire in the middle of the night
Weiss, was arrested during
the firefighting efforts for
interfering with firefight-
ers. Weiss’s additional theft
charges were unrelated to
the blaze, but instead tied
to previous accusations of
gasoline theft.
The investigation is
continuing and results have
not yet been released from
the Fire Marshall.
