10 — THE BAKER COUNTY PRESS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2016 Local Remembering September 11, 2001 Submitted by Rep. Greg Barreto Many of us can remem- ber the day, where we were at when we received the news, our fi rst glimpses of video on the media of planes being fl own into the world trade centers and then praying for all those directly affected by this horrible act of terrorism. We remember watch- ing the towers fall, our vulnerability, and our fi rst realization that America would be changed forever. We heard the news of other planes, one hitting the Pentagon and another that crashed in a fi eld in Penn- sylvania, thwarted from hitting its target because of brave Americans who rose up to prevent a greater tragedy. In the days afterward, suddenly, after years of suppression of public prayer, it was acceptable to pray in schools and other public arenas. We as a nation were call- ing out to God for mercy, protection for the rescuers, for the lives of the injured, comfort for the families of the fallen, for courage and for answers. It was now apparent that the United States of America would no longer be immune to the same level of terror that other nations received at the hands of this enemy. No longer would we en- joy that privileged state. Fifteen years later, the evil people in this world that fall under the category of extremist Muslims are alive and well in their quest to control nations through fear and terror created from senseless bombings. The war that was brought to these shores has changed us forever, but it has also taught us that we are not exempt from evil men and their hatred for those who disagree with their perverted religion. Their destructive offen- sive tactics will continue until we and the rest of the western world can put a stop to their madness. War is an ugly thing, but we are now engaged in a world war unlike any previous conventional war. This war has no designated boundaries or rules. It sucked us in full force on September 11, 2001 and will be around a long time. The resiliency of this nation is and has been an amazing thing. I hope that we all realize that we are not invincible, and to remain a force to be reckoned with must not forsake the values that made us the greatest nation that this earth has ever experienced. We need our moral com- pass restored if we are to weather this storm. The continual threat and damage from the religion of the Muslim extremist is made even more danger- ous in our weakened state as our nations foundation crumbles from the religion of liberalism and of politi- cal correctness. May God have mercy on us and may we never forget 9/11. Submitted Photos The World Trade Center towers under attack. I know at such a young age it is hard to keep attention, so I will do my best to keep them active and above all to fi nd fun in dance. Note to parents: In the past, Emma has allowed parents to sit in the dance studio. This has created distractions in the class and due to the very small size of our classroom this cannot continue. Parents are invited to sit outside the classroom, wait in the gallery, or take small children and go to the downstairs studio and play (if available.) Hi, my name is Emma Mahon and I have a love of all types of dancing. I actually started ballet older than most, but quickly caught on and found a passion. My ballet company was lucky enough to get to study in Cannes, France. I currently substitute Zumba at the YMCA and have taught preschool in the past. I am very excited to work with the little ones and hope they will absorb some of the ballet terms while having fun.
