Parkinson’s journey presentation to be held at Crossroads East to West ~ A Parkin- son’s Journey, Parkinson’s & Mucuna Community Event will be held April 25th, 6 p.m. at Crossroads Art Center 2020 Auburn Ave, Baker City. The presentation will highlight Tanya Denne’s India Research Trip Video. The community event will also highlight two months of research in India regarding Parkinson’s dis- ease and the plant Mucuna pruriens. Background for Event Over the past fi ve years Tanya Denne, a Baker graduate, has been re- searching the Ayurvedic plant Mucuna pruriens and its potential to treat Parkin- son’s Disease. Her neurological research pursuit was inspired when her grandmother passed from Alzheimer’s disease. Tanya’s persistence and dedication to Mucuna research lead her, and a team of four, to the roots of traditional medicine in southern India. This video highlights tribal fi eld work, lab work, and communication with Indi- an Parkinson’s researchers, chemists, ethnobotanists, professors and physicians. The purpose of this re- search was to help bridge the gap between eastern and western Parkinson’s medicine. Her research was intended to increase cultural sensitivity and awareness for the advance- ment of global medicine. She will be discussing her future plans regarding the Mucuna seeds brought back from India, and her upcoming involvement with the World Parkinson’s Congress hosted in Port- land, Oregon September 21-23rd 2016. EOU to host Lars Larson Eastern Oregon Univer- sity students, faculty and community members are invited to a free presenta- tion by talk radio show host Lars Larson Tuesday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilbert Center on campus. The event is the cap- stone project of Brittany Hargrove, a senior media arts and communication student at EOU, and is sponsored by the Union County Republicans. Larson is a nationally known radio host, award- winning news journalist, and regular guest on Fox News and other radio and television news outlets. Currently based in Port- land, he started his media career at age 16 in Til- lamook for The Mighty 1590 KTIL, and later worked for numerous radio and television stations such as KPTV and KOIN. His long-running radio program, "The Lars Larson Show," airs in the morning in the Northwest and in the late afternoon across the country. “I am so excited to bring a bold speaker like Lars to campus,” Hargrove said. “I have been listening to him with my dad since I was a tiny girl, so this is something that I have been aspiring to do for many years.” “As a media arts and communication student and an avid political afi - cionado, I cannot wait to hear what he has to say,” Hargrove added. “Conser- vative, liberal, or inde- pendent, everyone in the audience will surely take something away from Lars' speech.” EOU students who attend can enter a raffl e for a chance to win a $50 gift card from Amazon or Safeway donated by Lane Farms, or a gift certifi cate for lunch for two donated by Joe Beans. For more information contact Hargrove at har- grob@eou.edu.
