Gary Marlette Baker City, 1939-2016 Gary Marlette, a long-time Baker City attorney, passed away at his home on February Gary 16, 2016. A Marlette Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 ~ 2 p.m. at the Baker Elks Club 1896 Second Street in Baker City He was born March 25, 1939, and raised in Redfi eld, South Dakota with his two sisters, Valerie and Patricia. He was a popular student at Red- fi eld High School and will be remembered there as a football and track star. Gary was also in chorus and glee club, as well as serving in several student organizations. He was always ready to try some- thing new, especially if it was a little crazy. He was quite a joke teller, as well as a prankster. After graduating from high school in 1957, Gary’s family moved to Longview, Washington, where he attended St. Martin’s College in Lacy, Washington. In 1962, he met JoAnn Berks, and they were married in 1964. That same year he enrolled in night school at North- western School of Law. Northwestern later merged with Lewis & Clark Col- lege and he graduated in 1968 from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. In 1968 Gary & JoAnn, and their infant son, Andy, moved to Baker, Oregon where he practiced law, retiring in 2007. Gary loved Baker County and all that it had to offer. He was an avid bird hunter, and, at the fi rst snowfall, would head to the breaks of the Snake River with his hunting dog “Jack.” His family does not remember a time that he didn’t return with his bird limit. There are many fond memories of the family summers on the Snake River, enjoying skiing, boating, fi shing and camping. Gary will be remem- bered as a fun-loving man, always enthusiastically engaging people, enjoying being the life of the party, and, if there were a deck of cards around, was more than willing to show his many card tricks. Gary is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Carolyn Kimpton and her husband, David; grand- daughters, Madelyn Jo, Sydney Ann and Katie Grace; daughter, Molly Eekhoff and her husband, Adam; and daughter-in- law, Kaz Marlette; sister Patricia Boynton of Deer Park, Washington.
