12 — THE BAKER COUNTY PRESS FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2015 Local OMSI delights Brooklyn students BY BRIAN ADDISON Brian@TheBakerCountyPress.com Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) brought the “Al- tered States” educational program to Baker City elementary school students on April 16. Brooklyn gymnasium set the stage for fun science experi- ments highlighted by a big boom, a shower of ping pong balls, and plenty of steam emitted by the cold temperature experiments using liquid nitrogen. Erik Anderson, OMSI educator from the Port- land museum, drove the OMSI van throughout the region last week during the annual eastern Oregon tour, which included stops in Enterprise, Haines and Brooklyn. “We don’t think of it as the Portland Museum of Labor and Industry but as the Oregon Museum,” said Anderson. “The eastern Oregon tour gives students who can’t get to the mu- seum in Portland a chance to participate and learn about OMSI.” OMSI offers 200 inter- active exhibits highlighting renewable energy, global climate, health and well- ness, chemistry, engineer- ing, and technology. There are fi ve exhibit halls and Botanicals May 16 6 - 8 PM Just $12/person Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3456 2935 H Street • Baker City • 541.523.5413 Brian Addison / The Baker County Press Erik Anderson, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, visited Brooklyn Primary School April 16 and demonstrated the seemingly magical properties of liquid nitrogen.
