Three file for School Board
According to County
Clerk Cindy Carpenter,
only three individuals have
fi led to run for three open
positions on the 5J School
Board.
Position 1 has been fi led
for by Chris M. Hawkins
who is currently on the
Board.
Position 2 has been
fi led for by current School
Board Chair Andrew
Bryan.
Melissa A. Irvine is
seeking Position 5.
The deadline for fi ling
for any of these positions
is March 19, so additional
fi lings are possible, mean-
ing a competitive race if
any single position ends
up with more than one
candidate.
Voters will decided the
outcome of the election in
May.
Several other positions
are also open in the other
School Districts in Baker
County, including Pine-
Eagle and Unity’s 30J

Members of the Baker
City Lions Club met in
February to sort and count
hundreds of pairs of used
eyeglasses, lenses and
hearing aids to be dis-
tributed to needy people
throughout the world.
About 700 pairs of
glasses were collected
from donation boxes
located in businesses and
offi ces throughout Baker
City. They were counted
and sorted by type, includ-
ing prescription, reading,
and sunglasses. A small
number of separate lenses
and hearing aids were also
collected.
The glasses and hear-
ing aids were sent off for
cleaning and restoration
so they can be provided to
low income people in the
United States and other
countries.
Baker City Lions Club
is a nonprofi t organization
devoted to community
service projects as well as
sight and hearing at the
state, national and interna-
tional levels.
The basis for successful relationships is simple: You turn to each other and you can
heal, turn against each other and you damage. Getting to that “turning to” place is
where it gets complicated and very personal. Using a rare mix of the author’s personal
and professional experience, this book will show you how.
“… an incredible, must-read book.
Howard Bronson’s openness about his
own relationships makes this book
honest, insightful, educational and
raw.”
