You can also get museum membership gift certificates for the 2015 season. Betty Jones Richland, 1915-2014 Betty Jones, 99, died on Tues- day, Decem- ber 23, 2014, at home in Richand, Oregon. Betty There Jones will be a viewing on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. A Traditional Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Valley Grange (which is in the newly remodeled Richland Elementary School, corner of Main and Moody Road) in Richland. Interment at Eagle Valley Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a pot- luck reception to be held immediately following the interment at the Eagle Val- ley Grange. Lois “Betty” Adelle was born on May 22, 1915 in Adams, Oregon to Frank and Zelma (Lewis) Henry. The family moved to Catlow Valley by train when Betty was 1 1/2 years old. They lived in a dugout until lumber could be brought in by wagon to build a house. School days were spent in a one room schoolhouse and the Crane Boarding School. Her parents raised the children with all the joys of the out- doors, including trapping jack rabbits for five cents a pair of ears. She was so proud she could buy clothes and a saddle with her own earnings. Betty loved horses and loved to tell her many tales of riding through the hills of the Steens, Wallowa’s and more. She loved help- ing others, including lead- ing a 4H riding club for young people. Her days were filled with laughte , fishing and her great coo - ing. On May 25, 1936, Betty married Henry T. Bunyard in Burns by the Justice of the Peace. They made their first home at Crane, Oregon and owned a gas station in Ashland, Oregon. It was in Ashland that they had their first child, a son Jim. They later moved to to St. Johns Woods (which was in Portland) in 1942, and they both went to work for Kaiser shipyard, Betty worked as a welder on the Victory Ships. The next child, daughter Gayle was born in Portland. Betty’s husband Henry followed construction during 1956 through 1959, then relocating the fam- ily to Richland, March 9, 1959. While in Richland, Henry started a land level- ing business. Betty always felt slighted that they didn’t have a real wed- ding ceremony, so on their 50th Anniversary, in 1986, Henry and Betty renewed their marriage vows on horseback at the Halfway fairgrounds . Henry passed away March of 1987. Betty later married Her- schel Jones in December of 1989. Herschel passed in 2001. During Betty’s life she worked as a welder, waitress, cook, bartender, housewife, sold Avon and Sarah Coventry jew- elry. She belonged to the Eastern Star, Eagle Valley Grange, Fair Board, Re- becca’s, was Grand Mar- shall of the Baker County Fair, Grand Marshal of Eagle Valley Days in 2014 and member of the New Bridge Nazarene Church. She was preceded in death by her husband’s Henry and Herschel, two sisters Norma Myers and her twin sister Peggy Cockrell in 1988, step-son Butch Jones, step daughter Nona Jones Burr. Betty is survived by her son Jim Bunyard and his wife Sandi, daughter Gayle Haga and husband Bob, son Gene Bunyard and his wife Bonnie; step-children Clifford Jones, and Nona Jones Burr, deceased, 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, niec- es, nephews and cousins. Donna Mae Kelley Bording Curts Baker City, 1922-2014 Donna Mae Kelley Bor- ding Curts, 92, of Baker City, died December 26, 2014, at her home, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Curts the day be- fore, Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2 p.m to 7 p.m. Donna was born June 2, 1922, at Elko, Nevada, to Otto John Kelley and Pearl McBride Kelley. Being the daughter of a Union Pacific railroad engineer, Donna grew up near Union Pa- cific s rail line, completing grammar school in Elko, Nevada, High School in Winnemucca, Nevada, and Nursing School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Donna married Le- Roy Bording, the love of her life, June 1942, in Winnemucca, Nevada. Roy died 1 year later in a plane crash during WWII. Donna supported the war effort, first while in Chicago manufacturing K rations, and later in Salt Lake City as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. After completion of Nurs- ing School in Salt Lake City, in 1946, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Salt Lake City General Hospital. Donna married Paul Curts, May 1948, in Winnemucca, Nevada, then moved to Baker, Oregon, where she worked at both (old and new) St. Elizabeth Hospitals in Baker, Or- egon. Their marriage pro- duced 4 children, Bruce, Diane, Gail and Keith. Donna and Paul divorced in 1993. Through the years, Donna worked as a Medi- cal, Surgical and ER nurse, but her passion was deliv- ering babies. Many times through the years she, or her family, were stopped on the street by mothers she helped through deliv- ery, always thanking her for the extra care, compas- sion and advice she offered them. Donna volunteered for Red Cross blood drives for many years and served a stint as President of Baker County’s Oregon Nurses Association. Donna was active in the L.D.S church, active in ge- nealogy, and loved to help at the Family History Cen- ter in Baker City. Survivors include her son, Keith Curts, and his wife, Pim, of Baker City; daughter, Diane Robeck, and her husband, Steve, of Tonasket, Wash.; daughter, Gail Worthen of Taylors- ville, Utah; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands, a son, Bruce Curts; her parents; a grand- daughter, Kirsten Robeck; her brother, Terrence Kelley; and sister, Darlene Kelley. William “Buck” Alderson Baker City, 1930-2014 William H. “Buck” Alderson 84, a resident of Baker City, OR died December 18, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center, Baker City. Memorial services for “Buck” will be held Sat- urday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Seventh- day Adventist Church, 42171 Chico Rd. Baker City, OR. Pastor Tony Brandon will officiate. A private family burial was held at Mt. Hope Cem- etery. “Buck” was born August 12, 1930 in Arapaho, Okla- homa, a son of Moses H. & Fay Lucille (Harris) Al- derson. He graduated from Baker High School and attended college for a time. He served in the US. Army for two years and held the rank of Corporal (acting Sergeant). During his tour of duty in Korea, one spe- cial event stood out. That was when “Buck” was selected for special guard duty for Generals Mark Clark & Matthew Taylor, the supreme commander and adjutant of the entire Korean campaign at that time. “Buck” married Doris “Dimp” Ridenour in 1955 in Baker City, OR. Before beginning his career as a mechanic, “Buck” worked as a bookkeeper and a tele- phone company lineman. He attended many John Deere Service Schools working as an Ag and heavy equipment mechanic working for Jones & Son, Baker-Union Tractor, US Forest Service and Baker Sanitary Service. “Buck” was a dedicated husband, father and friend who never turned his back on anyone’s needs. All anyone had to do was call. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a active member of the Baker Val- ley Seventh-day Adventist Church. See OBITUARIES / Page 9
