PAGE TWO ROGUE NEWS FRI., DEC. 1, 1961 Is This School Spirit? Gripe! Gripe! Gripe! Basketball regulations have become a new source of irritation for the gripers of Ashland High. Lately, rules have been set pertaining to the basketball team. These rules include no skiing or other strenuous sports during the season. This rule is to protect the team. The coach spends months training the boys for the team and he doesn't want one of them to twist his ankle or do something else so he won't be able to play in the games. If a boy is interested enough in being on the team, he should be willing to give up something in return Regulations are for the good of the team, not necessarily to abuse the members of the team. If the coach says no strenuous sports, the teammates should comply. Is this too much to ask? Rodd'n With Robert BY BOB SNYDER In the school parking lot there are many different models, makes, and colors of cars that can be seen. There is one car on the lot in a class of its own. Darrell Plankenhorn's 1935 Bob King and partner seem to be enjoying themselves at the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance. Advisor Mrs. Selma McAlaster Mrs. Converse New Teacher Mrs. Hattie Converse, who is new to Ashland High School, teaches English II and III. She was born in New England, but came west to graduate from Ash land High School. Mrs. Converse has four child ren. Two sons attend college; the younger son is enrolled in Ore gon State and her older son is attending the Presbyterian Semi nary in San Francisco. One of Mrs. Converse's daughters is mar ried while the other is a freshman at Ashland Junior High School. Mr. Converse is on the mainten ance staff at the college. Besides being active in com munity activities, Mrs. Converse enjoys knitting, sewing, and rais ing flowers. Our School Nurse: Do You Know Her? Mrs. Ethelmae Kanclier, public health nurse of this district, is also the AHS school nurse. Mrs. Kanclier is in the school every Monday afternoon. Check with either the girl's dean or the boy s dean if you have some health problem. They will make an ap pointment for you to see Mrs. Kanclier. Mrs. Kanclier's office is located in the school administration build ing. She is there from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Dodge is an eye-catcher. The old Dodge is powered by a stock flathead six cylinder engine that originally came with the car, and has a three speed floor box. Darrell says the car runs well now, and the body is in good shape. Top speed of the car is from 65 to 70 M.P.H. and it gets from 15 to 16 M.P.G. At the present, Darrell's Dodge is a gray primer color, but it is to be painted a Gulf Stream Blue with a white top. On the inside, the original upholstery is . still on the seats. Darrell plans to re-upholster the seats with blue and white material when the car is painted. Darrell's car is quite an antique with its spoke-type wheels, and its charging-ram hood ornament. It's a real eye-catcher.
