TliurMlay, January U, 10:12. I'aRd Three YREAKANS BEATEN BY ASHLAND TEAM Ashland, t7 Treka, 15. The Lithlan Quintet met the Northern California Yrekans and sent them home again, beaten with a score of 27 to IS. The highly touted flTe from across the border looked good and were good, but the newly de reloped combination of Howell, Becot and Habbot proved too good for the visitors. With a flash of speedy play ing at the first of the game, the Yrekans got the ball at the first tip-off and worked it down to their basket by a series of accurate passes, but Howell, the old reliable, came in with his customary bull-like gentleness and tangled the hitherto smooth1 machine of the Treka boys into a knot which remained tied all evening. The game was forced to the Californlans by the Ashland squad clear through. Basket af ter basket was rolled in. Work ing with a smoothness that was surprising for a team that has been so erratic, the Ashland boys, working pass after pass through the defense of the Yrekans, won the game in the first quarter with the series of baskets placed. Howell was high point man and the general worry of the whole group from the sunk 1st state. Until the fourth quarter, when he was taken out on fouls. Howell knocked down more men than anybody around. The starting line-up was: Yreka Pos. Ashland Hessig RF Becot Bresolin - LF Gearhart Hughes C Howell West LO Darling Meamber RG Mabbot Substitutions made for Ash land: Myers for Becot. The boys' basketball team of the Yeoman Lodge No. 4067, of this city defeated the eMdford Yeoman 18-13 on the high school floor December 30. The game was a nip and tuck affair from start to finish. In the final quarter, Ashland obtained a five point lead which Medford could not overcome. HOOPSTERS HOOEY I One more winning year and we'll have the Copco cup cap tured. We certainly need it. there would be such a bare spot in the trophy case without It. LIBRARIAN AGAIN ASSUMES DUTIES Our basketba.il team should win the Southern Oregon Basket ball cup (or the third and final time. A good basketball team can't be had nnless the follows train". Wonder why it is. that the ath letes in so many, schools can't find time to study. Grades are often very good to have along about game time. Durham is small and fast. He seems quite able to go under a man instead of around him. "I never know how I liked my work until I was once deprived of the privilege", said Mrs. Gra-; ham as she resumed her work In the library, after her recent illness. . She states, "I will never be able to show my appreciation to my assistant librarians for the splendid work tbey did In taking care of the many (hit lees of the library," Mny students, during her ab sence, came to the library look ing for creferencej on material, that could not be found in the regular reference books. They had n search out, and unwind, for themselves, the mysteries of the hidden knowledge. ' Mrs. Graham's illness, coming as it did near the Christmas va cation, gave her ample time to regain her health and have a small vacation. j Again, with school's recom- ; mencing, all sails smoothly In the ; library.
