Q_ Center and the Portland Area Business Association (PABA) an nounced plans for a new travel portal for Port land’s LGBTQ_travelers, dubbed QueerNW . com. The collaborative effort is designed to highlight the Rose City and its surrounding areas as a destination spot for vacationing LGBTQjxavelers. The launch is scheduled to take place in spring 2012. The scope of the portal will reportedly he directed at both personal and business trav elers. The' Q ueerN W team is led by Marico Fayre of PABA. Committee members include Barbara McCullough-Jones, executive direc tor of the Q_Center; Jill Nelson, president of PABA; Bob Baskette, LGBT liaison for Trav el Portland; Corey Eubanks, PABA member; and Heather McDaniel, Q_Center liaison. To get things rolling, organizers are seek ing submissions from local artists and de signers to create a logo or wordmark for the QiieerNW.com website and for marketing materials. Interested designers are encouraged to submit their logos and contact information to the QiieerNW.com committee by noon on December 31. Logos will be reviewed in January 2012, and finalists will be selected and notified by January 31. The chosen designer will receive a WWW.JUSTOUT.COM Other Community Notes $100 honorarium and promotion on the web site and on marketing materials. Friendly House’s Chamberlin Invited to Speak at National LGBT Housing Summit Coordinators at Portland’s Gay &. Grey program announced November 30 that Friendly House’s director of Services for Se niors and Homeless Families, Mya Cham ber lin, was invited to speak at the U.S. Depart ment of Housing and Urban Development’s (H U D ) L G B T Elder Housing Summit. The summit was held December 7 in Washington, D.C., bringing together advocates and ser vice providers from across the country dedi cated to establishing safe housing options for LG B T elders. The D epartm ent of H ousing and Urban Development, the Adm inistration on Aging in the D epartm ent o f Health and Hum an Services, and the National C enter for Les bian Rights convened the summit to address housing, health and long-term care issues for L G B T elders, whom Cham berlin repre sented on behalf of Gay &. Grey (formerly known as the Elder Resource Alliance). Chamberlin shared with other L G B T lead ers nationwide the progress and success of Friendly House’s director of Services for Seniors and Homeless Families, Mya Chamberlin, was invited to speak at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) LGBT Elder Housing Summit. the effort’s housing assessment program and diversity trainings. The summit was available via webcast on the H U D site (hud.gov). For your last-minute holiday party options, Gay & Grey hosts its annual soiree Friday, December 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Friendly House (1737 N W 26th Ave.). The party is free and no RSVP is needed. On December 12, Gay &. Grey’s Diversity Training team will hold a training recruitment, again at Friendly House, from 1 to 3 p.m. The team is looking for LGBT elder adults and seniors to be trained as facilitators and/or pan elists for the group’s Diversity Trainings, which take place throughout the year and are given to nursing students, social work students, medical providers, housing providers and more. The declaration comes on the heels o f the City o f Portland’s similar declaration for the first week o f December 2010, becoming the first municipality in the nation to issue such recognition. M ult nomah County became the first county in the nation to issue such recognition. • The results for the 2012 Jose Honorees are in, and two o f the six are from our very own Imperial Sovereign Rose Court. Empress Stephanie Foxx and Emperor Shelley H utchinson each received the highest award given to members o f the International Courts System for outstand ing accomplishments within the Courts System and in the larger community they live in. The Jose Awards will be presented during San Francisco coronation weekend, February 24, 2012. • A Facebook page has been created for alum s, form er m em bers and friends o f the now -defunct gay youth group W indfire, as well as for its sp in -o ff group for tw entysom ethings, the Bridge Club.
