“I t’s an art more than a science,” Frazzini
says. “From everything we’ve learned over
the past decade, we know the essential ele­
ments it takes to win.”
These elements include “significant amounts
of money,” a commitment of time and energy
from LG BTQ . folks and allies and strong
partnerships with other organizations. In other
words: community engagement.
“Engagement so far in the community
has been solid and strong, but it needs to
continue to build,” Frazzini says.
Organizational partnerships have also
been strong, she says, citing the support of
the immigrant rights community, reproduc­
tive choice organizations, criminal justice
reform groups and a network o f L G B T Q .
and pride groups.
“VVe have incredible relationships with
organizations that run the spectrum o f the
progressive movement in Oregon,” Frazzini
says. “Everything is headed in the right di­
rection, but before we make the decision to
go to the ballot, we want to be looking at
strong majority support.”
In order to continue to grow public sup­
port for marriage equality, BRO has a num ­
ber o f events planned to engage with the
local community (see below for upcoming
events and volunteer opportunities). Frazzini
says she is confident that the message is ef­
fective, it’s just a matter o f connecting with
more people.
“W e’ve seen that when we can reach folks
with these messages,” Frazzini says, “it
changes hearts and minds.”
