Saturday in the Park—
Vancouver, Wash.
The 17th annual Saturday in the Park
event is back Saturday, July 9 from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. at Esther Short Park (301 W. Eighth
St., Vancouver, Wash.).
Under the theme “Bigger! Better! Bright
er!” the 2011 event hopes to capitalize on the
city’s buzz as a queer mecca; earlier this year,
Advocate.com named Vancouver the sixth
most gay-friendly city in America. High
lights include the family-friendly picnic-
style fun, with live entertainment from Kiss
Kill, The Shannon Tower Band and others,
and on into the later afternoon Community
Pride Awards and raffle. Lyle’s Myles—a 5K
annual charity walk/run—gets things started
in downtown Vancouver to raise money for
Cascade AIDS Project, Martha’s Pantry and
Global Partners for Development. The run
begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to all.
As of press time, the Vancouver Gay Pride
Pageant was set for Sunday, June 26 (doors at
5 p.m., show at 6) at the Vancouver Eagles
building, in lieu of the newly shuttered
Northbank (see story, p. 20).
