• Portland’s Fighting Fillies full-contact
women’s football team is trading the gridiron
for the asphalt in its first annual 3 on 3 Bas­
ketball Tournament Sunday, March 27 from
5 to 8:30 p.m. Registered teams will play
half-court hoops in a double-elimination
tourney at 44 NE Morris St. near Dawson
Citv Park.
Registration is first come, first served and
is $40 per team, $10 each additional player
for up to five players total. The first-place
winner receives a prize and their names in
the Fighting Fillies game program.

in the tournament, hut hurry—registration
closes Saturday, March 19. Pre-registration is

• The dream of the ‘90s is more alive in Port­
land than ever. To prove it, Mississippi Pizza
(3552 N. Mississippi) is hosting an early- to
mid-‘90s themed show featuring PDX punk
pioneer Kaia Wilson and the Spinanes’ Re­
becca Gates Friday, April 1 at 9 p.m.
Gates will cover epic ‘90s tunes, and W il­
son will revisit the track list from her 1996
solo debut Kaia. ‘90s attire is encouraged, and
admission to the all-ages show is $5.

• (^Center (6115 N. Mississippi) kicks off
an LGBTQ^film screening series Friday,
April 1 with Katie Turinski’s look at one of
Portland’s most notorious drag-art perfor­
mance troupes in Sissyhoy. The documentary
garnered official selection screenings at the
2009 SXSW Film Festival and the 2009
Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
Turinski will be on hand for a Q_and A
following the screening—the first installment
of a series taking place every Friday at Q_
Center from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be a $5-
$10 suggested donation at the door, but no
one will be turned away for lack of funds.

•The Uth Annual Portland Diversity Em­
ployment Day Career Fair is set for Wednes­
day, March 30 at the Ambridge Events Cen­
ter (1333 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.)
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 20 of Port­
land’s top employers will be present, includ­
ing Verizon Wireless, Target, Coca-Cola,
City of Portland Water Bureau and more.
Participating employers are actively seek­
ing to recruit the best-qualified candidates
from multicultural and diverse communities,
according to City Career Fair marketing
manager Gregg White.
Positions available range from entry to
professional level. Candidates should come
dressed in business attire and be prepared to
give a 30-second presentation about why the

• The Sexual and Gender Minority Youth
Resource Center (SMYRC, 3024 NE M ar­
tin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) seeks art supply
donations for an upcoming Youth Art Show
at 100th Monkey Studios on Friday, May 6.
The show will feature youth art and will in­
clude featured artists from SMYRC.
SMYRC is looking for donations of can­
vas, clay, acrylic paint, watercolors and water-
color paper and anything else folks can spare.
Submissions will be assessed by 100th Mon­
key Studios under the theme of how SMYRC
has affected people’s lives, though queer youth
art on any topic is welcome.
The deadline to submit is Sat., April 9.

• Oregon Bears, Inc. installed a new board
of directors for 2011-12 at its monthly board
meeting Wednesday, March 2, when Brent
Marr was elected the new president. Marr is a
well-known local artist and previously held
the title of Mr. Oregon Cub in 2007.

• A memorial service will be held Saturday,
March 26 at the Church of the Resurrection
(21060 SW Stafford, Tualatin) for Kent T.
Magionos, who died March 12 at the age of
55.
Magionos worked as an interior designer
and was well-loved by the Portland commu­
nity. A Transition piece will appear in the
April 1 issue of Ju st Out.
