OREGON S LGBTQ NEWSMAGAZINE 4 letters ...h e re ’s how lesbians view bisexuals: Either we don’t trust them and won’t touch them with a 10-foot-pole, or we don’t trust them but can’t seem to stop touching them. ...the fact that dating a bisexual increases your odds of being cheated on twofold— as she’s attracted to 100 percent of the population, rather than a measly 50— all this open- mindedness in whom you date seems like an idiotic idea. The odds suggest bisexuals are more likely to be a bunk hand, and if finding the royal flush is important to you, well, best to fold, right? There’s little room for bluffing when it comes to your heart. ...This all goes to say that dating bicurious or bisexual women is a gamble, as hot as they may be. God, especially if they’re hot! Many of us have learned we can’t bear the risk; it’s a task for the daring, to be sure. On the other hand, there are people like me who have learned they simply cannot stay away from those types of women and thus have come to terms with the fact that every relationship is a potentially perilous journey. I’ve had my heart broken enough times by girlfriends running back to boyfriends that I should be able to say I know better... from Vol. 28, No. 1, Dec. 17, p. 32, Quarter-Life Queeries, “Bi the Way" Not Bi-ing It To the E ditor : I’m a bisexual. And I’m not twice as likely to cheat on someone because I can potentially be attracted to either men or women. That’s ridiculously flawed logic [Vol. 28, No. 1, Dec. 17, p. 32, Quarter-Life Queeries, “Bi the Way”]. I can appreciate that lesbians don’t want to be trifled with by women who are be tween heterosexual relationships. Dating bisexual women is no more “risky” than dating lesbians. I t’s insulting to bisexual women to paint them as people with less than stellar intentions. W hen are bisexuals going to be afforded the same respect as the rest of the GLTQ_ community, especially by lesbians? Bridget Pilloud Portland “What It Means to Be Human" To the E ditor : Concerning your well-written story about “twin-spirited people,” I found it was done in a very sensitive manner [Vol. 28, FEBRUARY 18. 2011 ► No. 5, Feb. 4, p. 36, “Gender: One World, Two-Spirits”]. But I would like to point out that there are many conditions that can be described as being within the commonly used umbrella word “intersex.” A more accurate number for the percentage of in tersex people is about 1 percent and some would say up to 5 percent of the population is intersex. I have an intersex condition also. One of my undescended testis turned out to be an ovary, that became a malignant tumor. Also several teratoma not malignant tumor or cysts were found in my abdomen. These teratoma had arms, body and even eyes—in other words, fetal tissue. O f course these were not viable fetus[es], just fetus tissue. I’m cur rently undergoing testing to determine the exact nature of my DNA structure. I was also struck by the remark a woman made in regards to God not making mis takes. This type of remark never upsets me as it gives me a platform to try to educate people on intersex. We intersex have been around since the beginning of the human race and we are a natural variation of what it means to be human. I’m happy with my body and my life, both female and male side[s]. The fact is there is no female/male, just a blend of the two genders. David Micheletti Cohasset, Minn. I found a certain set of articles quite cute and funny. The “Panda” articles are intriguing and thought provok ing [ Vol. 28, No. 5, Feb. 4, p. 38, “Panda Say What?!”]. I have shared them with some of my straight (very straight) family and it has made them think. I would like to see more of Bennie Tan’s stuff or the Panda’s stuff on the Bear com munity and his life as a gay Asian.
