Some people don’t consider figure
skating a sport. These skeptics should
try jumping 4 to 6 feet into the air off
of one foot, make three—sometimes
four—vertical rotations in under a sec
ond and then land on one foot without
falling. Oh, and they’ll have to do so
while wearing razor-sharp blades and
taking on a frozen pond at speeds be
tween 20-30 mph. I bet said naysayers
won’t argue after attempting that.
For 25 years, Smuckers Stars on Ice
has been touring the nation, giving the
public a taste of professional figure
skating. The show has also helped ele
vate the sport by showcasing the ath
leticism involved.
