As health issues became more of a prob lem, he moved to Portland in 1999, where he maintained a home with his sister. Family and friends enjoyed being with Don. Don is survived by his sister, Sylvia Mori, brother Jim Drees and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held in Portland, and another one in Hays at a later date. James “Jim”John Entz May 2 7 ,1953-Jan. 9,2011 Don E. Drees passed peacefully on the evening of January 13,2011 at Gateway Care &c Rehabilitation Center in Portland, Ore. Don was born September 14, 1938 in Hays, Kan. He spent most of his life in Hays. He was always interested in radio and left Hays to follow his dream of being a radio announcer. He was with KSCB in Liberal, Kan. for many years. He served on Tom Potter’s mayoral campaign, was an office volunteer at Love ■ Jim was born in Tillamook to John and Marjorie Entz just minutes before his twin sister, Jeri Lynn. He died from complica tions of cancer with dignity and courage. Jim worked as a bartender in the ‘70s at Ray’s Half Moon Tavern, then for com panies that used his natural creativity and skills. He excelled as a designer for Frank Adams Florist and then as a manufacturer’s representative for Rolf Gille Imports, trav eling extensively throughout the North west. Later, Jim applied his great love of cooking and went to work for Trader Joe’s. Most recently, Jim worked for Volk swagen America. Jim thrived on volunteering. One of his favorite causes was Our House, where he cooked dinner once a week for the residents and raised substantial amounts of money for them through the benefits he chaired (ourhouseofportland.org). In the past sev eral years, Jim also enjoyed volunteering with The Pride of the Rose Scholarship Fund (equityfoundation.org/scholarships). Diana “Chama” Sanchez left this world on Janu ary 17, 2011, but only after having one last dance with her beloved wife, Sandy Bacha- rach. Before moving to Portland he loved own ing his “Gentleman’s Ranch” in Rochester, Wash, and still has close friends there. I le was the most happy this past year when he was able to attend his longtime friend Darcelle’s 80th birthday celebration. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Jeri Lynn Schott, sister Carolyn McCune, sister Claudette Leuthold, mother Marjorie and father Jack Entz. He is survived by his sisters Christy Wearne (Steve), Cathy An derson (Doug), Cloanne Portinga (Doug), Colleen Brown, “brother” Frank Schreck- enberger and many nieces and nephews.
