O REGON S LE S BIAN/G AY/BI/TRAN S/QU E E R NEWSMAGAZINE JULY 2 2010 7 Stories of Storicks Friends and colleagues remember Sam “I found in Sam someone precious who made me laugh, feel young, energized, and feel like I was the only man in the world who mattered.” — Greg Kerr, Portland and his postings were often irreverent and no-holds-barred, yet he never failed to infuse these postings with humor and wit. His fan base could not get enough and looked forward to the next posting with much anticipation. The consummate free spirit, Storicks was never fond of the establishment.’ He found re ligion and everything religious, such as prayer, distasteful. When he was first taken ill, a page called “Clap Your Hands for Sam Storicks” was created on Facebook. Since Storicks did not believe in prayer, the concept o f clapping to bring fairies back from the brink was bor rowed from Peter Pan and used as a way to generate positive energy in aid o f his recovery. Storicks had such a big personality that within a couple o f days, the page had almost 2,000 fans. People were clapping from all over the world, some as far away as the Netherlands and Australia. Even local radio hosts Mitch and Daria o f 105.1 The Buzz’s Afternoon Buzz talk show jumped on board on July 23 and got listeners clapping. Today, the page remains on Facebook as a tribute to Storicks and as a place for people to remember and celebrate his amazing and beautiful life. There will be a “Celebration o f Life” event held in Storicks’ honor on Saturday, August 14 at Branx, 320 SE Second Ave. from 6 to 9 p.m. This 21-and-over event will be followed by Bearracuda Portland, the dance event Storicks helped bring to the city. All proceeds from that night’s Bearracuda will be donated to his family to assist in funeral and medical costs. Separate events to commemorate his life will be held in San Francisco on August 11 and in Woodstown, N.J. on August 28. E du catio n The buying and selling experience should be a positive one.
