Gillibrand (D-NY). The letter was written in response to a successful motion of “no action” on the call for a vote to decide on the consultative status application of IG LH R C during the June Non- Governmental Organization Committee of ECO SO C. “O ur understanding is that this was an extraordinary use of the no-action motion to prevent the N G O Committee from making a decision on an N G O ’s application and this should be allowed to stand,” the letter read. “It would be very unfortunate if this procedural mechanism would be used to prevent an N G O that is highly regarded by the U.S. Department of State and the human rights community from being fully considered from consultative status.” The IG LH R C is committed to combating discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. For more information, visit iglhrc.org.... * The Second Annual Human Rights Campaign’s 3x3 Basketball Tournament, which held court July 24 at Irving Park, raised between $3,000-14,000 for H R C in another highly successful event. The total money raised surpassed the sum of the inaugural outing. H R C Membership and Events co-chair Shaley Howard reported that she couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout at this year’s event, with over 27 teams and almost 115 par ticipants taking part in the tourney. “I t’s rare for an event, only in its second year, to grow so much,” said Howard. “The atmosphere was light and fun and the games all ran on schedule. More women came out to play in the tournament, we had at least double the spectators watching and almost double the companies sponsoring the tournament.” O f the 11 competitive bracket teams regis tered, the Portland Energy took first place and Sol Identity took second. O f the 16 recreational bracket teams, the Portland Shockwaves took first, and The Big Worms took second.... • Two o f the newest members of the Our House Board of Directors will be stepping into their new roles in succulent style. As part of the 18th Annual Dinner at My House for O ur House series, Portland dancers M inh Tran and Gary Nelson will host a lavish dinner for 100 guests at their Tabor Falls home on Saturday, August 14 at 6 p.m. Dubbed “Asian Appetite and Tabor Falls Delight,” this buffet-style Pan-Asian feast of chicken, noodle dishes, salad and desserts—ca tered by Tamara Clark and Marvelous Meal Extraordinary Catering Service—is certain to trigger the salivary glands. There will also be a hosted bar, and with tickets priced at $100, this O ur House Dinner Series event is poised to generate $10,000 for the program. Fashion Weekend, will be in Pordand Saturday, August 14 at the Egyptian Club (3701 SE Division) to hang out with fans from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and on Sunday, August 15 at Dingo’s (4612 SE Hawthorne Blvd.) from 4 to 7 p.m., when guests will have the chance to eat dinner with Koffman before a screening of the show.... • On Thursday, August 19, Pivot—formerly the Men’s Wellness Center—will host a discussion event centered around the cur rent Food and Drug Administration’s policies governing blood donations by gay men. For more information, visit pivotpdx. org.... • The Oregon Women’s Caucus for Art (OWCA), a chapter o f the National Women’s Caucus for Art, is welcoming 84 artists from 24 countries to Portland for the ninth biannual conference of the International Women’s Art Council (INWAC) based in Panang, Malaysia. The conference will wrap up Sunday, August 8 after a week-long run, but the exhibition will remain until Friday, August 27 at the Liftman Gallery in the PSU Smith Memorial Union Building.
