Siren Na tion presents the third and final night cel ebrating groundbreakers and history mak ers. The first tribute night was dedicated to Billie Holiday: “.Lady Sings the Blues,” the second, Dolly Parton Hoot Night, and last but not least, an homage to the unbe lievable Smith. Proceeds from the concert benefit the third annual Siren Nation festival this November. The organization’s mission is to inspire and empower women o f all ages to create their own art and to highlight their many achievements in the arts. The evening will pay homage to the influential ways in which poet Smith has contributed to the history o f punk rock. Performers include the Swallows, Grey Anne, Karamy M., The Is, Heather Per kins, Silk 8c Olive, Teri Untalan, Reina Collins and Marie Black. The Swallows’ music is “rooted in the ideals o f pop. Their songs are sonic tales o f the band’s experiences as young queer musicians, the excitement o f traveling, the pressures o f pursuing the American Dream."The evening also includes a main stay o f Portland’s indie-pop scene, Grey Anne. She’s described as a “musician’s musician.” Also performing are The I’s, a new, gender bendin’ garage band made up o f three queer folk - guitar, bass blues harp and drums. Silk and Olive provide their listeners with a mellow, melancholy mix o f ambient and experimental music.
