He plans to integrate psychology, mar keting and business with his training as a counselor to become a “well-rounded development director.” Pride of the Rose, which was founded in 1979 by Rose Emperor V Frank Schreckenberger and Rose Empress XXI Allison Grey (aka Curtis Meyers), is administered through Equity Foun dation. Scholarships are available to members of the sexual minorities community and their chil dren who reside in the Portland area and Clark County. Applicants must be pursuing their edu cation beyond the secondary level and must be in demonstrated need of financial assistance to attain their educational goals. The conference will tackle a variety of topics from basics such as “HIV 101” and “Hepatitis C 101” to a session on “super infections” and “man aging co-infections.” Those looking for an “on the ground” perspective of health care for people with HIV/AIDS will be interested in hearing remarks from Mike McVeigh, medical director for Multnomah County’s HIV Health Services Center. Medical practitioners will hear from their patients at the closing event, a speaker panel of people with HIV/AIDS. “CAP thinks it’s part of our responsibility to create space for people with HIV and caregivers to hear about the considerable research we learn every year,” said Paul Feldman, a spokesman for CAP. The fourth annual conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p m. A cadre of Portlanders flew to Washington, D.C., for the Human Rights Campaign’s board of governors meeting and national dinner. They expected to hear U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., give the keynote address at the Oct. 4 dinner. But the vice presidential candidate had to cancel because of a family emergency, and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., read his remarks via satellite. Clinton, a perennial speaker at HRC events, is a “truly strong supporter,” said Michael Long, HRC Portland’s steering commit tee political co-chairman and a member of HRC’s board of governors, who was Terry Bean addresses the crowd after receiving the Human Rights Campaign's Legacy Award on Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C. in attendance.
