AUGUST 15,2008 JUStOUt 7 out standin g just askin Marc Delphine Reaches Higher Just Out asked those attending the premiere of the drag film What Ever Happened to Fannie Mae?, "Aside from Sissyboy, who is your favorite Portland artist?" . arc Delphine is a committed volunteer, en trepreneur and aspiring Libertarian politi cian as a candidate for Oregon state repre sentative in District 26. Delphine has served on the Portland Area Business Association board and co-founded its week ly networking group, Biz Builders. He also founded Equity Funds, which creates gay-friendly mutual funds, and volun teers for the Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center. A financial planner by day, Delphine is running on the platform of “personal freedom, personal responsibility and equality for all.” He wants to be a volunteer politician with a belief in the individual’s capacity to create change, en couraging people to “look to themselves first” for solutions. He pushes the idea that “government wastes too much money” and that solutions are found in focusing money on projects that are working, not failing. He also believes in “getting the government out of mar riage.” According to Delphine, “the government should be upholding the law” and “when the government grows, our freedoms erode.” He wants Oregonians to find sustainable solutions rather than relying on corporate-oriented government programs to fulfill the needs of individuals. My name is Marc Delphine 1. I am known as an ambitious entrepreneur and leader in my community. I like to spend my down time playing tennis and working out. My proudest moment was my second run for state senator in 2006. My biggest challenge is balancing priorities of my col lege and financial planning firm, Equality Funds, Univer sity of Phoenix, studying to be a certified financial planner, keeping in shape and finding a date! A perfect day in Portland would be spent at break fast at Mother’s Bistro, playing tennis with my ideal mate, walking by the waterfront with no clouds in the sky and 75 degrees, lunch at the Portland City Grill, winning the lottery and then- buying friends and family dinner at El Gaucho. My first job was at JK Gill in Washington Square. My inspiration is to expand Equality Funds into a multibillion-dollar in ternational corporation that promotes equality in the work force with out governmental in terference whereby we increase the interest in investing and voting. My cause is personal freedom, personal responsibility and to in spire others. I am 31 years old. I feel 31 years old. My childhood ambition was to be president of the United States of America (and still is!). My first same-sex crush was on Jose Canseco or Kirk Cameron. Marc Delphine, who is running for state representative, believes the government has no place in marriage. My highest hope for the cause is to enrich and reward companies and investors alike for participating in a vol untary way of expanding freedom and equality in the workplace, thus developing a higher standard of living, fully informed voter partici pation and spiritual/ political passion in the world. © We cover both sides of the fence.
