Just Out attended a strategy session Dec. 7
between Multnomah County employees and leaders
of vanous nonprofit organizations who discussed the
logistics of Jan. 2s domestic partnership registration.
We gleaned these tips:
Take the bus. Parking at the Multnomah
Building is minimal on a normal day. Spaces will be
scarcer on this monumental day.
If you plan to download and print the necessary
forms to fill out ahead of time and sign them before
a notary of your choice to expedite the process, use
legal-size paper or you’ll have to get back in line
and start all over^gain.
The county will have notaries on hand, but it
will not have any room in the lobby for people to
perform religious ceremonies. Unlike marriage,
domestic partnerships do not require solemnization.
Be prepared to have your picture taken.
A media feeding frenzy is anticipated.

Writers Clam Up
Don Pile and Ray Williams, who write the
column “Traveling Our Fabulous Gay World,”
visited Portland in November and encountered
many things that weren’t to their liking—the
homeless, poor service in bars, a queer-focused
brochure from the Portland Area Visitors
Association that they perceived to be offensive.
Their negative review was printed in Talk,
a Palm Springs publication with distribution
throughout Southern California. According to Pile,
the column has thousands of readers and is
syndicated nationally in queer magazines.

After a hopefully hassle-free day in line Jan. 2 at
the Multnomah Building, Portlanders can gather

a photo booth from 5 to 8 p.m. in Gerding Theater
at the Armory, 128 N.W. 11th Ave.

The organization’s sponsors, the McNaughton
Group and Beth Allen and Cynthia Barrett of
Allen2 Law, allowed ajfy money donated at the
dinner to directly benefit the granting fund and
new campaign. With approximately $10,000 in
donations raised, the organization doubled its
revenue from last year’s major donor reception.
The event also served as an opportunity for
major donors to meet Liz Field, Equity’s interim
executive director. The search continues for a per
manent hire, whom the foundation aims to have in
place by the spring.

Equity Foundation held a reception
Nov. 30 for the purpose of thanking the organiza
tion’s major donors.
And while this core group was gathered at the
Museum of Contemporary Craft, a new campaign
was launched.
Partnership for Progress was unveiled with
a commercial by Portland filmmaker Ben Olberg.
The campaign is specifically designed to create
members of an endowment fund with the ultimate
goal of raising $500,000. Once the goat is met, it
will become a twofold gift, part of it remaining
untouched in the endowment and part of it being
spent on grants and operations.
Equity also introduced Trillium Asset
Management Corps., a leading firm in socially
responsible investing. Lisa Less, who manages
Trilliam’s offices in Massachusetts and North
Carolina, introduced the company that now man
ages Equity’s portfolio.

Just Out contacted Pile and Williams to
ask if a boycott has been pursued. Pile
responded, “We’re not interested in talking

Just Out also received an automatic
response to the e-mail we sent, explaining
that because of the many hate letters and a
death threat they received from Portlanders,
e-mails are being forwarded to their lawyer.
