Well, folks, 2007 is quickly coming to an end, and what better way to say goodbye to the Year of the Boar than to slaughter a wild pig with one’s own bare hands and roast it over a roaring living room-size bonfire? It’s fun and original, and 200 pounds of charred pig can make a heckuva lot of pulled pork sandwiches. But apparently, my landlord and a number of government agencies think my time would be better spent hitting up some of the numerous New Year’s Eve parties happen ing around town. Fine. Spoilsports. In my humble opinion, nothing says “ring in the new year” like a ritzy New Year’s Eve ball, and my oh my, does queer Portland have some amazing balls. The. award for cleverest theme this year goes to Boxxes’ Two Thousand Eight Ball, where musical guests FSO DJ, Seth Hutton, Jason Inc. and Doug- alicious will help your booty shake in the new year, while custom Magic Eight Balls will give you an idea of what ’08 has in store for you. The Egyptian Club has pulled out all the stops for its New Year’s Eve Gay-la, a “premier queer New Year’s Eve bash" lasting from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. and featuring a midnight champagne toast, continental breakfast at 2:30 a.m. and DJs Ray Lee and Diameter. C.C. Slaughters is also vying for your new year’s attention with its Platinum Ball 2008, a sleek mix of hois, booze and 2OO7’s hottest dance hits as spun by DJs Alex Hollywood and DJ Robb. If you want a little Revelers ring in the new year during class with your new Platinum Ball 2007 at C.C. Slaughters. year’s sass, make sure to hit up Darcelle XV’s 41st New Year’s Eve Extravaganza, which offers dinner, a show, cocktails, midnight champagne and breakfast buffet and, of course, the festive flair that only Darcelle and company can offer. If balls just ain’t your thing this year, make sure to check out some of the less theme-heavy goings-on in and around the town. Casey’s, the Eagle PDX, Crush, Scandals, Silverado, Hobo’s, Embers and Northbank are all great choices for New Year’s Eve partygoers not wanting to get all dolled up and throw down 40 bucks for a glass of champagne. Oh, and in case you were wondering, 2008 is the Year of the Rat. There’s your auld lang syne for ya. —Ben Nystrom q BOXXES/FISH GROTTO/ W RED CAP GARAGE 1035 SW Stark St. • 503-226-4171 Boxxes/Red Cap Garage, the only two in one gay club in the city, is Portland's original gay dance club and has the most experienced DJ ensemble in the scene Stark Street's only nonsmoking bar for the boys 0 CASEYS 610 NW Couch St. * 503-224-9062 New "all-inclusive* nightclub and lounge in Old Town from the owner of the Eagle Q C.C.
