What’s warm, gooey, delicious and a great winter treat? Pop Tart, that’s what. Unlike the stale, flat, generic excuse for breakfast that used to ’ pop its way into your hand on the way to school, this Pop Tart is full of flavor and fun. Taking place on the second Sunday of every month at Holocene, the all-queer, all-female event is a new twist on an old favorite. Shoshana Oppenheim began Tart two years ago and hand ed the night over to friend and coHeague Kaki Marshall in August. Now with the reins in hand, Marshall plans to make the evening more sizzling than ever with a buffet of new DJs like A&D, Victor M and Joy while also recruiting tasty new guests. “As our community has grown and evolved, there is now a generation that identifies as queer and wants a place to express themselves without a label,” says Marshall. “There’s a real sense of community here, and there is more than enough for all!” Kaki Marshall runs Pop Tart every The event promises a night of lip-smackin’ satisfaction second Sunday at Holocene. and a way to whet your appetite for something new when the winter doldrums set in. By modeling the evening after Sunday late-night successes in Marshall’s hometown of the Bay Area, she’s also carefully chosen her entertainment wisely to appeal specifically to Portlanders. It’s clear while sweating to the hody- wracking heats with a room full of eye candy, one can easily find comfort food here. With a limited number of spaces for queer women in Portland, Marshall hopes Pop Tart offers another way for more to come out and dance their asses off. Maybe this tasty morsel will be something we can all agree on. ‘Tm really all about expanding the scene, and I think Portland is ready for a more unified one,” says an excited and hopeful Marshall. “If some is good, more is better!” Pop Tart starts 7 p.m. at 1001 S.E.
