Answer: All of the above, hosted by a delightfully debauched order of missionary, and visionary, drag nuns. On the evening of July 28, the Seattle Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will join forces, and habits, with the Portland house of their international order for "One Night Only,” a show tune revue that promises to be simultaneous ly funny, freaky and fabulous. It’s a first for the Portland Sisters, formally known as the Order of Benevolent Bliss, which was only founded in 2005, compared to 1987 for Seattle’s abbey or the eponymous San Francisco order, which stretches back to 1979. “One Night Only” will also feature the talents of local drag notables from outside the sisterhood such as Miss Gay Oregon XXXV Terrika St. James, Miss Honey Bea Hart, Miss Mylar Black and Miss Jersey Scities. The show will benefit Camp Starlight, a program of Cascade AIDS Project that provides children whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS the opportunity to enjoy a safe and spiritual camping experience. Sister Tasha Salad, the “point nun” for the event, says being a sister is a lot of fun, but definitely a commitment. Sister Tasha Salad will sing show tunes to raise “It has its moments, but mostly I think of it as a way to give money for kids affected by HIV/AIDS. to the community," she says, “whether that means passing n out safe-sex kits or just being an ear for people that need someone to talk to. It seems that being a sister involves a lot of volunteer time and a genuine altruistic sensibility. There’s hard work and a serious message beneath the fun and false eyelashes. According to Sister Tasha, the Portland house is slowly growing in numbers and now has five fully professed sisters, along with three novices and several aspirants. There are also guards who act as escorts and bodyguards, although Sister Tasha says, “Thankfully we’ve never had to resort to our guards protecting us in Portland.” “One Night Only” takes place 7 p.m. July 28 at the Embers Avenue, 110 N.W. Broadway. The suggested donation is $5. —Tony LeTigre According to BarFly, this "cheery, kicked-back pub draws a convivial, mostly mature crowd to its somewhat countrified environs."
