SILVERADO For six months now, Red Cap Garage has hosted a weekly drag show called the D-Word for the 21-and-older crowd. Manager Jon Guidone masterminded the night as an alternative to traditional Darcelle-style drag cabaret intended to draw the Booty/Eastside crowd, some of whom, he discovered, aren’t so keen on Stark Street. He enlisted Jessie Grimes, a San Francisco import who is now Red Cap’s staff decorator, to design a stage and refinish the club's cocktail tables, and FSO DJ (no stranger to the venue) to handle lights and sound for the new show. X Then came recruiting the talentf self-described “sexy bitch” Jersey Scities and Miss Gay Oregon XXV Terrika St. James to co-host. Says Guidone of this pair, “Jersey is the diva, and Terrika does her standards and the best comedic drag in town.” These three together brain stormed the rest of the cast, which originally featured Ms. Tommy Grrrl as “the showgirl of the bunch” and Lexxus Scities as “the sex kitten.” (Lexxus eventually had to bow out—it's tough being a soccer player by day and a drag queen by night.) Guidone says the show hit the ground running (“we had 75 people our first night” Oct. 4), which led him to round out the little cast with local drag stars Ms. Honey Bea, Sahel and Johanna Kelly. The show generally works with a loose theme, and past highlights have includ ed the drag queen equivalent of a cockfight called BitchFest (put two adversarial queens on stage, each with a microphone, and watch the fur fly!) and a Worst Thanksgiving Story contest with audience participation.
