There's No I in Team...But There's an Us in Crush Oregon Ballet Theatre performs premieres by three of America's most distinguished choreographers March 3-10. Sitting in a Portland coffeehouse Last year, two friends talked of starting something great. Kara Edwards and Serene Bertram, both veterans of the Rose City Softball Association, set out to create a new team that combined competitive play, athleticism and, most of all, genuine friendships. “Crush isn’t just about softball. Our team exemplifies community, setting goals and having a blast while working together,” says Allison Schmidt, an outfielder for the team. One year later, Crush and its 15 returning members are embarking on their second season. After placing second in the women’s division, the team is setting its sights on qualifying to compete in the Gay World Series this fall in Phoenix, Ariz. To collect money for regular and postseason expenses, the team has begun organizing several fund-raising events through out the year. The first major Team Crush benefit will be a night of improv and drag featuring Johnny Mozzarella and friends, a wine/beef cash bar, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and more. The variety show will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. March 1 at Oaks Park Pavilion, 1 S.E. Spokane St. The minimum donation is $5.
